Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Science teacher who specialises in Biology for September 2017. The appointee will be an excellent teacher with a passion for science and a desire to make a difference to students' lives. Given the right skills, the post will be of particular interest to a newly qualified teacher who is able to teach up to KS5 Biology as the school has an extensive professional support programme.

Science is a strong, successful and innovative department achieving excellent results at all key stages. The department is very well resourced with two suites of computers and high quality technician support. Staff will be teaching in their own fully equipped laboratory with interactive whiteboard.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an 11-18 Roman Catholic Girls’ School, which is highly regarded in the area and oversubscribed and which was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2013 for the third consecutive time. We are a thriving and happy school community with a strong family ethos and an excellent reputation.

We are looking for a Biology teacher with:

  • Enthusiasm, passion, outstanding subject knowledge and a consistent drive to teach outstanding lessons
  • Vision, presence and clarity
  • A love of learning and a desire to further your knowledge both within and outside Biology

In return we offer:

  • A rewarding role in an outstanding school
  • Comprehensive support and CPD, with a commitment to the professional development of all staff
  • Enthusiastic and engaged students and a culture of high aspirations.

The school is a short walk from Upminster station where Overground and Underground services are available; the school is also a short drive from the M25, A12 and A13.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact the Curriculum Leader of Science, Mrs Cheryl Raper.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

About Sacred Heart of Mary Girls' School

The School’s Mission Statement And Aims
The Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School is a community of faith with Jesus Christ at its centre and where prayer is part of our daily lives. In our school, we aim to bring out the best in everyone and we are committed to the pursuit of excellence. Gospel values such as honesty, patience, kindness and forgiveness are at the heart of our relationships. We show concern and respect for individuals, valuing each member of our school community as a unique person created in God’s image and loved by Him. While encouraging pupils to become young Christian adults who have a love and appreciation of their own faith, we also help them to have an understanding and respect for other traditions and faiths. Our aim at all times is to recognise Jesus Christ as ‘the Truth’. It is only by believing in Him, and by making Him the centre of our lives, that we can ever be completely happy and completely free.

In the light of our Mission Statement we aim:
To provide a caring, disciplined and stable environment in which teaching and learning can take place, and in which each pupil is respected as a unique person with God given gifts, qualities and particular needs;

To enable pupils to achieve their potential in academic studies, and to assist their intellectual, spiritual, moral, cultural, aesthetic, emotional and physical development in preparation for adult life and family responsibilities;

To help pupils develop respect, tolerance and concern for others, an appreciation of the complexity of the world around them and its cultural diversity, and to become responsible citizens;

To create a happy and purposeful Christian community which will enable pupils to grow in understanding of their faith and of themselves, to enjoy relationships based on trust, courtesy, kindness and co-operation, and to develop confidence and a joy in learning as a sound basis for further/higher education, satisfying careers/vocations and a full life.
