Job overview

William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) is a vibrant, multicultural school that welcomes children from all backgrounds and beliefs.  We are committed to ensuring that all children receive a first-class education that prepares them thoroughly for the future and allows them to play an active role in the life of the school and wider community.  The school encourages staff to organise events and trips (home and abroad), extra-curricular and subject enrichment activities, to develop the whole child, to prepare him/her for the challenges of the modern world.

We have an opportunity for an outstanding Science teacher to join the Biology Department.  In 2018, the opening of a new Sixth Form Centre marked the completion of a huge expansion project.  Inspectors judged the school to be Good in all phases in its most recent inspection in May 2019, since when the Science Centre has been refurbished and modernized, so this is an exciting time to join the school.  Applications from ECTs are welcome and a full support programme will be provided.

Reporting to the Subject Leader (Biology), you will be responsible for teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and Biology at both KS4 and KS5.  You will be an outstanding teacher, delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students.  You will have up to date subject knowledge and a track record of success in maximising student progress across all key stages.

As well as being an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about the teaching of Science and Biology, you will also need to demonstrate a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school.  Within the Science faculty, a large range of activities take place such as science club, university trips and participation in events at other local schools.

Science is a very successful and high achieving faculty at WHGS which boasts outstanding results.  The most recent IDSR report has indicated the all science courses at KS4 are performing above national standards.  Results over time show sustained performance at KS4 and improving results at KS5.  The uptake of science courses at A level is particularly strong with the majority of sixth formers studying at least one science subject.
