Job Title: Secondary Teacher of Science-Biology
Line Management: Responsible to Head of Secondary

Purpose of the Post

  1. The teacher will be involved in the delivery of Science throughout the Secondary School with the ability to specialise in Biology at IGCSE and IB Diploma level.
  2. Be accountable for raising student achievement in the your classes.
  3. Support high standards of teaching and learning in Science.
  4. Take an active part in the development of the Science department and the school as a whole
  5. Engage in extra-curricular activities as required ensuring a high level of good quality participation by a wide range of students.

Leadership and Management

  1. To support the vision, positive ethos and policies of the whole school and raise standards of the teaching, learning and attainment of students across the school.
  2. Lead learning by providing a professional, positive, pro-active and creative approach in Science.
  3. Support day to day requirements such as examination entry, planning lessons and teaching to a high standard at all times.
  4. Maintaining the high professional standards expected of a teacher in our school
  5. Keeping up to date with marking and holding up to date records of student progress and providing additional support when required
  6. Support the work of the Science Department.
  7. Manage and organise class resources required to teach Science.
  8. To keep abreast of educational developments in line with the needs of the school.

Teaching and Learning

  1. To be an exemplary teacher, clearly demonstrating effective planning, teaching and organisation, and high standards of achievement and behaviour in Science lessons.
  2. To be responsible for the development and on-going review of the school’s science curriculum and related schemes of work.
  3. To follow the school’s assessment, recording and reporting procedures.
  4. Be willing to share good practice within and beyond the Science department.
  5. Promote cultural entitlement through the provision of a broad range of enrichment activities during and after the school day.

Extra-curricular Activities

  1. Actively promote interest in Science outside the immediate physical and timetabled confines of the department.
  2. Contribute to the broader life of the school by supporting and leading curricular and extra-curricular events.


Marketing and external links, including public occasions

  1. Actively promote the Science department within the school community to encourage student interest in the subject area.
  2. Contribute to positive promotion and marketing of the school in the wider community.

Description of the Faculty

All laboratories are equipped with a computer linked to a data projector and in most cases an interactive whiteboard. The Faculty has lap-top computers and ipads for student access. There are two full time laboratory technicians.
