Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational Teacher of Science to join an experienced and specialist department. The successful candidate would be required to teach KS3 Science and KS4 Biology/Chemistry/Physics. The ability to teach in specialism at A Level is also desirable. The post would suit an ambitious NQT or a more experienced teacher.

Science Department

We are seeking a well-qualified, creative and inspiring Teacher of Science who is passionate about working with students who are all eager to learn and challenge themselves. Depending on experience the successful applicant will have the opportunity to teach across the full age range from Year 7 to Year 13.

At KS3 all students follow an accelerated two-year science curriculum, which allows the GCSE course to run over three years. At KS4 all students study separate sciences following the Edexcel (9-1) specification. KS4 students are taught in mixed ability groups and by subject specialists. Science subjects are extremely popular at A Level, with over 100 students studying at least one science A Level. A Level and GCSE results are excellent in all three sciences. Each year a large number of A Level students choose to study science-based degrees at university, with most going to Russell Group or Oxbridge institutions.

The science department is an experienced and friendly department. We are keen to support each other and continuously aspire to deliver outstanding lessons. We are passionate about our subject and this is reflected in the enthusiasm from our students. Four dedicated science technicians support the teaching of science in eight dedicated laboratories.

There are many opportunities to go above and beyond the curriculum with students, ranging from competitions and projects, to conferences and subject based lectures to an excursion to Space Camp. Sixth Form students lead the school’s science societies, supported by our STEM co-ordinator. A large number of students complete CREST awards and science based EPQs during their school life. Older students are also actively involved in mentoring students in younger years.
