Job overview

The Cottesloe School is a successful, oversubscribed and rapidly improving Foundation Secondary School situated in the village of Wing in rural Buckinghamshire.  Ofsted rated Good in all areas - July 2016

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Science to teach all subjects to KS3/4 (and A Level Chemistry for an appropriate specialist).  There is also the opportunity for the additional responsibility of KS3 Science Co-ordinator role (TLR payable).

This is an ideal opportunity for either an NQT to undertake their induction training in a school that has a proven track record of providing excellent professional support for all staff and has been awarded the CPD Mark of Outstanding, or for an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge and great CPD opportunities.  We have a welcoming and supportive environment for students and staff alike.

We have a successful and hardworking Science Department with year on year improvement through a focus on the needs of our students. We currently run a two-year KS3 and three-year KS4.  Our results are on an upward trend with 65% of students achieving C or above in Science in June 2016 exams (100% GCSE cohort) – Biology 93% A*-C; Chemistry 91% A*-C; Physics 98% A*-C. We currently offer OCR Gateway B – Science, Additional Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We have a range of subjects at A Level including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Level 3 BTEC Applied Science, and Health and Social Care.

Values and vision

The Cottesloe School’s staff are fully committed to maximising the life chances of all of our students by creating a rich, deep, vibrant and challenging learning experience for everyone. Our students benefit from highly qualified and exceptionally committed staff who recognise the importance of creative and challenging teaching, strong pastoral care and have high professional standards.

Our curriculum has carefully designed pathways to make sure it meets the needs of all our students. It provides an excellent range of options in GCSE and A Level qualifications supported by a range of vocational courses.

Prepare, Aspire, Succeed is borne out of a simple philosophy of what we believe is the purpose of education.

Prepare, Aspire, Succeed is what we do - it is what defines us as a school and it encapsulates all that is unique and strong about The Cottesloe School.

A focus on working towards academic excellence across the school is complemented by a commitment to providing the emotional support students need to recognise their potential. This is the purpose of The Cottesloe School’s TEAM Hub (Together Everyone Achieves More) centre. If a Head of Year identifies further support is necessary, interventions such as anger management and stress management are made available through drop in sessions or through professional counselling.

Ofsted

“Leaders are passionate about improving all aspects of the school for the benefit of every student.  All staff have worked effectively to embed an ethos of warmth, care and support.  Students are rightly proud to belong to their school.  Parents are positive about the behaviour of students and say they are managed well.  Staff are similarly positive about the behaviour of the students.  Parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school and the quality of the education it provides for their children." Ofsted November 2021  - Remains Good in all areas.
