Job overview

Are you passionate about science? Are you a dynamic, enthusiastic, creative teacher? Do you want to want to work in an Outstanding school on the edge of Dartmoor National Park? If so we want to hear from you!

Required from September 2019, we are looking for a full time teacher of science to teach across all key stages. The ability to teach A-level is an advantage but not essential.   Whether you are new to teaching or more experienced, we want an outstanding practitioner who can demonstrate their drive and desire for excellence in the classroom and inspire our students to join our supportive and innovative team.

Science is a popular and high achieving subject and we consistently have a large proportion of students opting for triple science at GCSE. We also have large numbers of students studying at least one science subject at A-level (including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and BTEC Applied Science), with excellent exam results.   If this sounds like the school for you then please get in touch.

This post is temporary for one year from September 2019 to cover maternity leave.

Okehampton College was granted Teaching School status April 2016, and established The Dartmoor Teaching Schools Alliance (DTSA), with over 90 schools as members across Devon. The establishment of DTSA has enhanced the quality of teaching and learning for our students and created opportunities for professional development for our staff, so that the opportunities for development and career progression within the organisation are superb.

We are delighted to be part of The Dartmoor Multi- Academy Trust (DMAT) which came into effect on 1st January 2018.  DMAT is a large MAT consisting of a total of 3 secondary schools and 13 primary schools and provides further opportunity for sharing good practice and resources and for staff development.

All schools in The Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).

About Okehampton College

Our purpose and mission is to best serve our students, their families and the wider Okehampton Community.  The ethos at Okehampton College is one of Support.  The dedicated staff are working together to identify and provide the assistance your child needs to maximise their achievements. We have high expectations for pupils and teachers alike to work together to ensure strong progress, from when pupils join us in Year 7, to when they leave us in Year 13.  We want to work with parents, carers, and families to give our pupils the best chance of success during what are very important years of their lives.

We are a vibrant academy, serving students aged 11-19, set on the edge of beautiful Dartmoor.   We are rooted in the community we serve and are committed to the development of our students’ character, as well as their academic achievements.

We are delighted to be part of the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust.   This is allowing us to build strong links with our feeder primary schools, as well as allowing us to work more closely with our partner secondary schools, Holsworthy College and Tavistock College.  We believe achievement is not just about qualifications.  Personal Development is key to what we do. We are developing opportunities for students to play an active part in the school community in the form of student voice groups and working more closely with the community.  Our Local Stakeholder Body of Governors are knowledgeable, committed and a driven group who meet regularly to discuss and evaluate our needs and progress.

Fundamentally, we want our pupils to become independent, resourceful, and responsible citizens of the future, with broad experiences that enhance their time at Okehampton College, to give them the widest opportunity for future careers and life-long learning as well as giving them experiences or activities that might mould their futures.
