Job overview
We are proud of our college, our talented and highly motivated staff and pupils. Our staff team work tirelessly to ensure that teaching is the best it can be and everyone has a role to play in this. We support each other and there is an open, friendly and collegiate atmosphere where new members of the team are welcomed and supported.
We are:
An Investors in People Gold Award School, which means that we invest heavily and value the development of all our staff.
An inclusive Church of England School with benefits of links with The Diocese of Chichester and the opportunity to promote strong lasting values based on the Christian faith.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Science Teacher to join a successful Science Department and supportive team of staff with the capacity and commitment to raise student achievement even further.
The team of Science teachers at St Catherine's College teach across the full age and ability range. There is also an opportunity to teach Triple Science in a preferred specialism, all our pupils take Triple Science for the new GCSE specifications. We aim to foster a love of Science in the pupils we teach, by planning and challenging lessons that engage all learners.
We believe it is crucial that new members of the team are welcomed and supported, and a large number of the PGCE students we have on placements choose to work here because of this support. All teachers contribute to the development of shared resources to help with planning and we regularly run internal inset sessions. This approach has seen us develop many innovative new teaching strategies.
We have a condensed two year Key Stage 3 and, therefore, a three year Key Stage 4 where we teach the AQA trilogy syllabus. Currently we have mixed ability sets in year 7 - 9 with setting by ability starting in year 10, and we structure the curriculum pathway to allow regular opportunities for pupils to move between groups.
Ongoing improvement in the teaching and learning of Science at St Catherine's College is of the utmost importance.

About St Catherine's College
We are St Catherine's College. We are a Church of England Academy that has children at the heart of everything we do.
Our smart, well behaved pupils are happy and proud of their school. We are a high achieving school with children who are well prepared for their next steps in life.
We are fixed upon progress for all. Pupils benefit from smaller classes in English and Maths, as well as additional support when they need an extra boost to accelerate their progress. We are blessed with excellent teachers who are happy and stay here. The teachers, the tutors and our expansive pastoral team work with each child to help find their 'missing piece' so that they can reach their God-given potential.
We are different, and what sets us apart is that we are the only Church of England Secondary School / Academy in East Sussex. Parents send their children here because we insist upon high standards and firm boundaries, all underpinned by our Christian foundation.
We are a college that teaches and explores the value of resilience. This resilience is in part why our students are more likely to stay on and succeed in further education than their peers nationally.
We are creative and maintain a broad and varied curriculum with Art, Dance, Drama, Music, Food Technology and Motor Vehicle all featuring in our curriculum as we recognise the value of developing the whole child experience. Beyond a rich mix of Sport, Drama, Dance and Music, we also offer chess, gaming, our Mandarin Academy, host the Pauline Quirk Academy and offer so much more...
We are St Catherine's and it is our mission that every child achieves his/her God-given potential. We aim for every student to rise to challenges, to enjoy learning and to feel a sense of belonging.
