Les Beaucamps and St Sampson’s High Schools are looking to appoint with effect from 1st September 2016 an enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified, specialist graduate teacher with the vision to deliver high standards of teaching and learning in the area of Science, and to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the Schools and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney are embarking on a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education.

The person appointed will be employed by the States of Guernsey and will be based across the Federation and will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across key stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that they will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the States of Guernsey.

The post holder will be required to teach throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. At KS4 they will be expected to teach GCSE Biology, Physics and Chemistry topics to Higher tier level, as well as to foundation level classes.

You will be able to excite and challenge students to make rapid progress and will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising students’ individual achievements with exciting ideas to build on existing good practice.

Facilities within the department are excellent. Teachers operate out of their own well equipped laboratories, and also have access to a department office and large prep room. ICT is well provided for with a departmental trolley of 20 laptop computers and extensive data logging equipment. Technical and IT support from the technicians is excellent.

This post carries a five year housing licence. If appointed, you can expect to:

  • Work in a well-resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;

  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

Salary will be in accordance with the Main Pay Scale of £28,534 - £40,972 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale of £43,271 - £46,024 per annum for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment.
