Job overview

St Anne’s School is looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified, specialist graduate teacher with the vision and energy to deliver and model high standards of teaching and learning in the area of Science. You will teach throughout KS3 & 4, whilst working with teachers in the primary phase to ensure continuity of provision and a smooth transition from KS2 to KS3. Furthermore, you will make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the School and to the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools.

The three island 11-16 High Schools, the Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre (11-18), and St Anne’s School in Alderney work in a federated model of partnership working led by the Director of Education. The drivers in secondary phase education for this collaborative approach are:

  • Quality of educational experience and outcomes
  • Equality of opportunity and access
  • Efficient and effective use of resources

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at St Anne’s School, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across key stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school initiatives which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service.

You will be able to excite and challenge young people and will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning. You are also expected to have excellent communication and management skills, a strong commitment to team work and the ability to maintain productive relationships with staff and young people. We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements and you will have a proven track record in equipping learners to make excellent progress, and the determination to make a difference to the lives of young people.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a well-resourced Department with a dedicated team of teachers and to play a prominent role in middle leadership. What’s more, you would have opportunity to lead initiatives that will contribute to the strengthening of literacy skills and to be involved in department reviews, as well as take part in professional feedback.

In return, you can expect to:

  • Work in a well resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

Salary will be in accordance with the Guernsey Main Professional Scale of £29,247 - £41,996 per annum. There is also an Upper Pay Scale (£44,353 - £47,175) for teachers who have successfully gone through the Threshold Assessment.
