Job overview

Are you an ambitious Science teacher looking for a career defining role?

We are launching a brand-new Health Futures course this September and we are looking for a dynamic and driven teacher to lead it. The initial interest in the course from students – and from employers – has exceeded all expectations and we really feel that, with the right leadership, this could be huge!

The Health Futures course is based around the BTEC in Applied Science but also incorporates high levels of employer involvement and real-world problem solving to build students’ employability skills. It is designed to support young people to progress via university or an apprenticeship to the many health and science careers available locally and nationally.

UTCN exists to develop the next generation of health professionals and engineers. With a fabulous £10m building and £1.3m of specialist equipment, that’s exactly what we are achieving.  We’ve been open six years and we are already one of the top performing UTCs in the country. We have an established specialism in engineering, but we also cater for 14-19 age students with an interest in STEM subjects. UTCN was graded ‘Good’, by OFSTED, across all areas in May 2019.

If you are an excellent teacher who has the:

• Capability to set up and lead a brand-new course

• Passion to enthuse young people about Health careers

• Belief that all young people can achieve highly

• Ability to deliver excellent results

• Capacity for hard work

• Determination to ensure that UTCN is the top provider of its type in the country

Then we want to hear from you. For further information and to apply, please see our website www.utcn.org.uk

About University Technical College Norfolk

University Technical Colleges are a new concept in education. They offer 14-19 year olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full time, technically-oriented course of study. They are equipped to the highest standard, sponsored by a university and offer clear progression routes into higher education or further learning in work.

The students combine hand and mind to learn in a very practical way, integrating national curriculum requirements with the technical and vocational elements. The UTC ethos and curriculum is heavily influenced by local and national employers who also provide support and work experience for students.

They are sub-regional, taking students from a wide geographical area. This reduces negative impact for any one local school in terms of student roll.

UTCs specialise in subjects that require technical and modern equipment, for example, engineering, product design, health sciences, construction, and land and environmental services.

However they all teach business skills and the use of ICT. The chosen specialism reflects the university's areas of excellence and the needs of local employers.

A fundamental principle of UTCs is that they do not judge students on their past performance. Students are given new opportunities and new ways of learning which allow them to achieve to a higher level than they may have done before.
