This post is suitable for a NQT or an experienced teacher with a TLR responsibility

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our successful school. The ability to teach Chemistry or Physics would be an advantage.

The Broxbourne School is an 11 – 18, co-educational, friendly and heavily over-subscribed all ability Academy school of 1281 pupils with 236 A-level students. We are situated just north of the M25 close to the train station with a fast service to London and Cambridge.

The school provides an excellent academic education within a caring and supportive environment. The school has been graded as ‘good’ by Ofsted. “Every student is spurred on to achieve their best because leaders and teachers have high expectations and aspirations for all”. “Teachers have very strong relationships with students who, as a result, are engaged and motivated to try their best. This creates a very positive climate for learning” (Ofsted November 2013).

In 2016, 79% of pupils achieved 5 or more higher grades including English and maths with 94% achieving A*-C in English and 81% achieving A*-C in maths. 78% of students achieved 2 Sciences at A* - C. Our A-level points score per entry was 230 and A-level points score per student was 861.

There are thirteen science teachers with separate Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics who support the Head of Science. Currently, 76 students study AS/AL Biology, 67 Chemistry and 20 Physics, with 10 students studying Applied Science. There are nine laboratories, eight of which have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Interactive whiteboards in all laboratories and two trolleys of laptops ensure ICT is an integral part of science lessons. Four technicians provide support. The school is committed to providing teachers with excellent resources, clerical support, LSA support, a disciplined environment and professional development. The school is committed to continuing professional development and will support teachers wishing to complete a Masters in Education. The school also operates an accelerated pay progression for exceptional teachers.

Further details and application form are available from the school website.

Closing date: 15th December

We are an Equal Opportunities employer. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All postholders are subject to employment checks and a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
