Salary: MPS/UPS plus 2 SEN points 
Hours: Full time

 

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding science teacher, who also has the ability to teach maths, dedicated to helping our young people reach their full potential.  The successful applicant will have experience of developing and delivering Science up to GCSE level and will be offered a fully equipped science lab, experience of teaching maths would be an additional bonus.

 

As a suitably qualified teacher, the successful candidate will prepare and deliver high-quality and effective lessons and interventions that foster academic progress, alongside support the development of learners’ essential skills and emotional resilience in a stimulating and supportive environment.  He/she will work in line with the SEN Code of Practice and have the ability to motivate and inspire young people experiencing social, emotional and mental or physical health difficulties operating between Entry Level and Level 2.

 

Applicants must be able to evidence:
• recent experience of science teaching with secondary-aged students who exhibit behavioural, emotional and social difficulties;
• ability to successfully motivate and teach disaffected students within mainstream secondary education and/or other settings;
• their ability to support young people in achieving appropriate science qualifications  through a curriculum that embraces nurturing principles;
• their ability to ensure the College meets the statutory requirements of the SEN Code of Practice;
• their ability to lead and manage personalised learning programmes for pupils;
• their experience of and ability to develop, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the science curriculum in terms of outcomes for pupils.

The person appointed must be flexible in all aspects of their work, as they may be required to teach in both specialist and mainstream settings as the needs of learners change.

• the ability to use a flexible approach and a variety of techniques to enable disaffected students to access a personalised curriculum to meet their needs;
• effective communication skills;
• the ability to be understanding, calm and supportive;
• energy, patience, enthusiasm and a sense of humour;
• an ability to work flexibly and respond to change;
• a commitment to inclusive practices and the emotional reliance to manage a wide-range of student issues;
• a commitment to working in partnership with parents, mainstream teachers and outside agencies.
