To commence September 2022

Batley Multi Academy Trust’s sole purpose is to provide an outstanding education through our family of schools.  Batley Multi Academy Trust currently comprises Batley Girls’ High School, Upper Batley High School, Batley Grammar School, Healey Junior, Infant and Nursery School and Field Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School.

Batley Grammar School is a “good school” (Ofsted Oct 2018) and we continue our school improvement journey to become an outstanding school. We aim to combine our traditional ethos and culture together with a modern approach to teaching and learning. Visitors regularly comment about the friendly atmosphere and calm, purposeful learning environment being quite palpable. “Staff are proud of their school ….”; “It is a place where pupils can indeed ‘believe, grow and succeed”; “Pupils are committed to learning, they are respectful in classrooms and they try their best”; “Your school is a calm place to be, and a happy place to learn”. (Ofsted October 2018) At Batley Grammar School we value staff who take a pride in their work and in the school and who are willing to contribute fully to the life of the school including its extra-curricular programme.

The Science department currently comprises of a Head of Science Faculty, a second in Science and a further 5 science specialists, including the Deputy Head. The department comprises of 6 science labs, three which are specialist subject labs and three general science labs. The labs are serviced by two full time lab technicians.  Science results at GCSE have been consistently high with more than a third of the cohort achieving grades 7-9 in the AQA courses.  We are looking for a candidate who can continue and improve on this high attainment with dynamism and enthusiasm to inspire and motivate across the ability range.

KS3: Year 7 are taught in tutor groups with year 8 and 9 in sets according to ability. The scheme of work follows the AQA KS3 Mastery syllabus and offers a variety of teaching and learning experiences, engaging students in the subject. Staff will teach across all subject specialisms at KS3. There is an emphasis on active and engaged learning – a key aim is for students to develop their skills so they can think and plan for themselves.

KS4: Students begin the KS4 curriculum after Christmas of year 9. Towards the end of year 9 students are invited onto one of two Science pathways to follow the new AQA Trilogy Science option or enter for three separate Sciences. Uptake for separate Science is high. Students are taught by subject specialists and the emphasis on all learning is application of key ideas and learning through practical work. Practical work plays a key role in the progress and learning of students and is evident in nearly all lessons.

If you meet the criteria above then we would be thrilled to hear from you.

Please apply by completing a Batley Multi Academy Trust application form and a Personal details and Equal opportunities form, available at www.batleymat.co.uk or by contacting the Human Resources department on 01924 350081/ recruitment@batleymat.co.uk, for consideration by our selection panel.

Interviews will be held week commencing 7th February 2022

About BGS

Batley Grammar School was a fee paying HMC independent school which underwent the transition to become a state funded all through 4-18 Free School in September 2011. The NOR has gradually increased over the last four years and is currently 960 (200 pupils in the primary phase) and will grow to approximately 1000 in the next few years to meet the demand for places. Our development has continued in 2019/20 as we joined the Batley Mulit Academy Trust, working with local schools to serve the families in the local community.  Batley Grammar School currently has a five faculty structure: Mathematics and Technology; Science; Creative and Performing Arts; Communications and Discover.   The school has an established reputation for academic progress, good standards of behaviour and extensive extra and co-curricular opportunities.

 We offer:

 • A strong leadership team committed to staff development and student outcomes;

• An excellent reputation for extra-curricular opportunities, qualities we wish to preserve;

• A particularly hard working and positive team of staff;

 • Supportive parents and governors and delightful students and pupils.
