Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a talented, passionate and skilled Teacher of Science to join a successful and experienced department in our Church of England 11-18 comprehensive school.

Hutton is a single sex boys school from 11-16 which is oversubscribed in most year groups and has 735 students currently on roll. The school is co-educational from 16-18 with 147 students currently on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in May 2022 and ‘Outstanding’ by SIAMS in February 2018.

The Science Department is made up of 11 members of staff, including a Subject leader for Science and Chemistry and subject leaders of Biology and Physics. We are a well-resourced department, with 8 fully furnished science laboratories and 1 science classroom. We are supported by 2 technicians and a specialist Science teaching assistant.

Our success can be credited to our hard-working students, supportive parents and committed and dedicated staff both within the Science Department and school as a whole.

Science is taught up to Key Stage 5 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics with teachers teaching within their subject specialisms in the majority of cases. We follow the AQA specification with a large percentage of students being given the opportunity to study Separate Science at Key Stage 4. Many of our students chose to continue their studies to A Level standard at Hutton and we are well equipped to meet the demands of required practical tasks.

We are looking for a teacher who can use their skills and knowledge to motivate, support and inspire our students to achieve their full potential. A specialism in Chemistry would be preferred but as the post holder will be required to teach at Key Stage 3 initially we are also open to applications from Biology or Physics specialists. This post would be suitable for Early Career Teachers. We are ideally looking for a full time member of staff but would consider requests for part time hours.

If you would like to arrange a visit to school prior to applying, would like to discuss the post further or have any questions, please contact the school via email to the HR Administrator, Ms K Wohlman, at k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org.

If you like what you have read so far and wish to be considered for this role, please complete the application form. Completed application forms and any accompanying documentation should be sent to HR Administrator, Karen Wohlman, at k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org

Application forms, alongside job and person specifications, are also available from the school website www.huttongrammar.org. All completed application forms should be accompanied by a letter, no longer than two sides A4 in length, outlining a candidate’s suitability for the post.

The school is committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to Enhanced DBS clearance. Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Closing Date: Monday 12th June 2023 at 12:00noon.
