Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Science Teacher to work within our continually improving Science Department.

Lea Manor High School is an 11 - 16 mixed comprehensive in Luton. Our recent Ofsted in December, 2013, stated:

‘Classrooms are often vibrant and stimulating environments, for example the music and drama rooms. This helps students become interested in the lessons.’

‘Students behave consistently well in class. They enjoy their lessons and find the work interesting. They participate with enthusiasm in discussions. In group activities, students work positively with all their classmates, not just their best friends.’

We are seeking to appoint a Science Teacher to work within our continually improving Science Department. This is a great opportunity for a qualified teacher to deliver outstanding teaching and learning within this subject. This would suit somebody with a track record of successful teaching within Science or a newly qualified teacher.

Over the last few years the department has been invested in significantly and we have 6 modern laboratories, fully equipped including up to date ICT. The department benefits from a large Heart space with staff working area and efficient preparation room. We are fully staffed and have several intervention workers.

At Key Stage 4 all students study edexcel core and additional science. Triple science is also a curriculum option for the most able.

As a science department we are constantly evaluating our science curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of our learners and develops an enthusiasm and passion for the subject.

The successful candidate needs:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching practice and pupil progress within your lessons
  • An outstanding understanding of the Science curriculum
  • Team motivation and evidence of successful coaching or mentoring of others
  • An absolute passion for science
  • A deep understanding of pedagogy and its effective application

This is an ideal opportunity for an NQT or an experienced teacher seeking a new challenge.

Lea Manor High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.

The school gives good support to disabled students and those with special educational needs. They are catching up with the standards reached by other groups of students. Students enjoy their lessons. The headteacher’s ambitious vision for the school is clearly communicated so that the collective efforts of staff and students are sharply and constructively focused.
