Job overview

UTCN exists to develop the next generation of engineers and technology specialists and with a fabulous £10m building, £1.3m of specialist equipment, that’s exactly what we have achieved.  We have been open five years and we are already one of the top performing UTCs in the country. We have a specialism in engineering, but we also cater for 14-19 age students with interests in Science, Computing and Mathematics. UTCN was graded ‘Good’, by OFSTED, across all areas in May 2019.

As a STEM focussed school, all sciences are very popular. GCSE Physics and Chemistry are part of our KS4 Core Curriculum and Biology is a very popular option choice. All sciences are taught at A Level. We follow OCR at GCSE and AQA at A level.

We have some flexibility with the curriculum, so applications from Biology, Chemistry or Physics specialists are welcome.

This role is offered on a permanent basis and as we continue to expand and develop over the next few years, opportunities to take on further responsibilities will be available to the right candidate in the future. NQTs and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. A TLR responsibility of £4,763 may be available for a colleague seeking a Year Lead role.

If you are an excellent teacher who has the:

  • Capability to teach GCSE and A Level Sciences
  • Belief that all young people can achieve highly
  • Ability to deliver excellent results
  • Capacity for hard work
  • Determination to ensure that UTCN is the top provider of its type in the country

Then we want to hear from you. For further information and to apply, please see our website www.utcn.org.uk

About University Technical College Norfolk

University Technical Colleges are a new concept in education. They offer 14-19 year olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full time, technically-oriented course of study. They are equipped to the highest standard, sponsored by a university and offer clear progression routes into higher education or further learning in work.

The students combine hand and mind to learn in a very practical way, integrating national curriculum requirements with the technical and vocational elements. The UTC ethos and curriculum is heavily influenced by local and national employers who also provide support and work experience for students.

They are sub-regional, taking students from a wide geographical area. This reduces negative impact for any one local school in terms of student roll.

UTCs specialise in subjects that require technical and modern equipment, for example, engineering, product design, health sciences, construction, and land and environmental services.

However they all teach business skills and the use of ICT. The chosen specialism reflects the university's areas of excellence and the needs of local employers.

A fundamental principle of UTCs is that they do not judge students on their past performance. Students are given new opportunities and new ways of learning which allow them to achieve to a higher level than they may have done before.
