Job overview

We are looking for an inspiring and ambitious teacher, with exceptional teaching ability to join our ‘Outstanding in all areas’ academy. Science might not be your subject specialism but, we are looking for great practitioners with an interest in Science, who would like to explore moving into teaching this core subject. We offer an innovative coaching program and would support you to secure and embed enhanced subject knowledge. You may have the opportunity to deliver your subject specialism within the Applied Resilience curriculum.

You may be a PE teacher trying to secure your next appointment or indeed an established practitioner looking for a new challenge. Perhaps you are a Design and Technology teacher with a passion for STEM. If you can motivate students to achieve their best, you are passionate about instilling a ‘Growth Mindset’ and can nurture students to see challenges as opportunities to flourish, we’d love to hear from you.

Brayton Academy was awarded ‘Outstanding in all areas’ in our most recent Ofsted inspection which highlighted our students’ exemplary behaviour and excellent attitudes to learning, our outstanding Leadership Team and the substantial progress made by students in lesson thanks to skilful teaching. Our GCSE results are ‘well above national average’ and our academy is the school of choice within our community. This is an excellent time to join our thriving academy.

Brayton Academy is proud to be part of The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust. The Rodillian ethos of resilience, a Growth Mindset and Positive Discipline has helped to transform schools – from their culture to their Ofsted ratings – as well as the lives of students and teachers.

At the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust we are committed to doing things differently – creating schools that students want to attend, and where teachers want to work. We raise aspiration levels for staff, students and schools by encouraging creativity in the classroom, and by giving our staff freedom to experiment with their teaching, as part of our pioneering curriculum. All of this is guided by our Positive Discipline policy – a traditional approach to behaviour management.

The successful candidate will enjoy access to high quality CPD. You will also be joining a happy Trust where 95% of colleagues agreed that they enjoy working here and 92% would recommend us to a friend or colleague (taken from 2022 staff wellbeing survey). Our commitment to the staff wellbeing means we prioritise staff mental health, drive down unnecessary workload and support our colleagues to progress in their careers.

This role provides a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as a growing Trust with an excellent reputation and access to high-quality CPD for all, there are always opportunities for career development.

Brayton Academy opened in September 2016 and serves the communities of Brayton, Selby Town and the surrounding villages. The Academy is continuing to grow and become the school of choice in the area and is part of the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust.

Rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2019, the Academy's 2021/22 Progress 8 figure is far above national average at 0.77 (including Year 10 early entry GCSEs), with 74% of students achieving a Grade 4 in English and maths and 55% of students achieving Grade 5.

Brayton Academy holds the traditional values of good discipline and respect. With this in mind we expect our students to excel in their day-to-day studies as well as their exams.

These expectations are robustly and rigorously upheld through our Positive Discipline system, which creates a calm, purposeful and harmonious environment where staff and students have positive relationships.

Moreover, students have a safe learning environment where they can thrive, and staff can focus on the craft of teaching and their own professional development.

We uphold the principles of teacher freedom, and we want to promote innovative practice within the classroom.

We have exceptionally high expectations of all of our students and staff but with that comes a high level of support and encouragement. If you are interested in pursuing your career and making a difference to young people’s lives in an excellent, innovative and contemporary school please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.
