Job overview

We are seeking a passionate and inspirational Teacher of Science in our secondary phase to be part of our vibrant and successful science team. Although the school will welcome applicants from all specialisms, candidates who are able to teach physics to A level are particularly encouraged to apply.

The school is a dynamic, successful, highly-oversubscribed and all-through academy which covers an age range from 4 to 19. The school caters for over 1,960 students, with 420 in the primary phase and over 300 students in the sixth form. The school was identified by the DfE in 2015 as one of the top 100 non-selective schools nationally at KS4 and was the East Midlands regional winner and national finalist of the 2016 Pupil Premium Awards for students at KS4. Results are significantly above average at all key stages.

The science team are highly-motivated and passionate about delivering an engaging science curriculum for all key stages. The area is extremely well-resourced and benefits from state of the art, purpose-built facilities. Academic results in science have been strong over recent years, with separate sciences achieving 100% A*-C in 2016 across biology, chemistry and physics and 52% A*-A in biology and chemistry at KS4. Core and additional science achieved 63% A*-C across both subjects in 2016. At AS and A Level, science subjects have a strong uptake with a minimum of two classes for each course and results have shown good attainment levels, with 93% of chemistry students achieving A-C at A level, 61% in physics and 71% in biology.

Caroline Chisholm School has a clear ambition to become the highest-performing school in the Northamptonshire area, across all phases, within the next 5 years. The school is privileged to have a highly-talented, experienced, motivated staff team and a supportive, capable and extremely well behaved student body.

The school is striving to become a centre of excellence in developing innovative and highly-effective teaching, whilst being a school that continues to focus on the wellbeing and happiness of all students. If you feel that our school ethos fits your ambitions, we would very much like to hear from you. This position is available from September 2017 and applications from both NQTs and more experienced practitioners are welcome.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure. All applications should read the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy (which is available on our website) and are required to declare any information, as requested, on the online application form.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who are interested in a job share arrangement, as part of a part-time role.

A TLR2 would be available to a suitably qualified candidate.

  • Visits by prospective candidates prior to submitting an application form are encouraged.
  • Closing date for this post is noon on 30th January.

  • Interviews are likely to occur on thursday 2nd February.

  • The school reserves the right to interview strong candidates at an earlier date to ensure that we secure the best person for the post.
