Job overview

King Alfred’s Academy is a highly successful school in South Oxfordshire, set in the market town of Wantage and overlooking the Ridgeway; it is steeped in history and dates back to 1597 (1844 students on roll, including 320 in the Sixth Form). King Alfred’s is in the heart of the local community and has very strong links across many partners in the locality, and particularly with the primary schools with which we jointly form the Vale Academy Trust (VAT), creating many cross-phase opportunities for staff and students. We consistently achieve highly at GCSE and A Level, and we are also proud of the excellent achievements with our Level 3 vocational qualifications. Our ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted encourages us to ensure that we continually seek to improve the educational experience for students and reflect upon the responsibility we have as a local employer. At King Alfred’s we are passionate about learning both within and beyond the classroom; enrichment of educational experience is central to our ethos. We are committed to teacher training, the CPD and career development of our staff; we are a lead National Teaching School within the Oxfordshire Teaching Schools Alliance (OTSA) where we take a lead role in supporting CPD training, in addition to supporting a wide and varied VAT CPD programme sharing the experiences of teachers across all the schools. Our Executive Headteacher of the VAT is a National Leader in Education who supports schools beyond the VAT.

We have, and continue to, invest heavily in our environment; the recent full refurbishment of our Creative Arts block and the opening of our brand new teaching and dining block on Centre Site has transformed life for students and staff. The next phase of our ongoing building development is well underway, to ensure that King Alfred’s Academy provides an exceptional education for young people in the years ahead.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational Science teacher who is passionate about Teaching & Learning and securing the best outcomes for all students within the academy to join our highly successful Science Faculty, as well as being part of the extra curricula opportunities offered to all Students. We welcome your interest and your application. A suitable relocation allowance is available for the right candidate.
