Job overview

Wye School opened in September 2013 with a single intake of Year 7 students.  This September we welcomed our third year’s intake and are now planning the GCSE curriculum for start in 2016.  This is a comprehensive (all ability) school with a profile of around 90% of students estimated to achieve at least 5A*-C with English and Mathematics, based on entry scores.  In June 2015, Ofsted praised our, ‘very vibrant and strong leadership, clear and aspirational vision,’ and, ‘high level of ambition for the students and the school.’  We are heavily over-subscribed and are only interested in appointing people who actually like young people and the challenges of teaching them.

We are now looking to add to our close-knit team of dedicated and dynamic teaching staff.  For September 2016 we want to appoint a Teacher of Science, preferably Physics, or with the ability to teach Physics to at least GCSE level.  For the right candidate there might be the possibility of combining this with Mathematics teaching.  Because we are growing year by year, this post is being advertised in conjunction with a range of other posts across various specialisms.

In Science you will join a highly skilled and vastly experienced team of practitioners.  The team is well-established with schemes of learning which lead to AQA GCSE (both separate and combined double award).  Science has a strong enrichment programme, including trips to Wildwood, the Big Bang Festival and the Salters Chemistry Festival. Most recently, we took students to the Houses of Parliament for the launch of the Space to Earth Challenge. Annually we commemorate British Science Week through primary Gifted and Talented events and a series of inspiring workshops. In addition, we offer a range of after school Science clubs, including the Crest Award.

We welcome applications from candidates with varying degrees of experience, including NQTs. There is an expectation that all staff, teaching and support, contribute to our extensive programme of enrichment activities, which offers opportunities as diverse as Crest Award, fencing, allotment tending, land studies, golf and Boxercise.

Wye School works closely with Ashford School (Independent School of the Year in 2011), in a model of state-independent school partnership unique to United Learning. We are a small, establishing school and this appointment would give you the exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of developing the curriculum, resources and strategy within your subject area and the wider school.

Closing date for applications: Friday 12th February 12 noon.

Please download and complete the application, applicant monitoring and confidential disclosure forms, which can be found at http://unitedlearning.org.uk/Jobs?ref=ULJOB_731_WFS

Applicants should send completed application forms to Kerry Ward, PA to Principal at Wye School, Kempe Centre, Olantigh Road, Wye, Kent TN25 5EJ (Tel: 01233 811110 or email office@wyeschool.org.uk).

Wye School has a vision of excellence, a vision shared by all staff and pupils. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2018, the school is dedicated to ensuring each student gains the knowledge, confidence and skills to make a success of their future lives. The school currently caters for Years 7 -12 pupils and will complete sixth form growth in September 2019, growing to a roll of 600, housed in our new permanent building which has individually designed learning spaces offering an outstanding environment for staff and pupils. The first GCSE results in 2018 were above average for Progress 8 and above national average Attainment 8.

Located within close proximity of the village centre, it is at the very heart of the local community and has the potential to grow into a truly exceptional school. Wye is perfectly located to enjoy the Kent countryside, whilst still being within an hour of London thanks to HS1.
