Dates: Apply by 9am on Monday 7th March 2016
Start date: September 2016
Salary: Inner London Teaching Scale
Location: Royal Borough of Greenwich, London
Contract type: Full Time
Contract term: Permanent
The Science department at Corelli College Cooperative Academy has undergone significant developments
in the last twelve months and we are looking for ambitious team-players to join our dynamic team. We
have a very supportive ethos and believe strongly in collaborative working to get the best deal for all of our
students. Continuous professional learning and coaching are key components on offer and one of our
biggest priorities would be to support you in developing your professional practice, at whatever stage you
are in your career. All of our post-holders in Science are completing or have completed nationally
recognised qualifications and courses for middle leaders and all members of the team are regularly invited
to attend internal and external continuous professional learning courses.
One of our middle leaders comments that: “the Academy is a highly nurturing and developmental
institution that has always placed a keen emphasis on growing me as a practitioner. I joined in 2012 as an
NQT, low on confidence. My timetable included some challenging groups, but I received first-class support
from my mentor and line-manager as well as from the ITT co-ordinator that allowed me to develop into an
outstanding practitioner within eighteen months. This support was not confined to my induction year, and
the Academy is fully committed to the ethos of investing in talent, providing funding for staff to attend highquality
professional development, including with the Prince’s Teaching Institute and Teaching Leaders. The
result of this is that within two years of joining the college I had progressed to Subject Team Leader, and am
now a Curriculum Team Leader overseeing a team of ten staff.”
Corelli College is an inner-city London school (only fifteen minutes from London Bridge by train), on a huge
sixteen acre site with lots of green space. We are immensely proud of our Academy farm which our
environmental Science students and technicians have helped to develop and we are now planning to
incorporate this further into the KS3, 4 and 5 curricula of a number of subject areas around the school.
In addition to developing very strong schemes of work for all key stages, our laboratory technicians enable
us to deliver a myriad of practical lessons which strengthens students’ enthusiasm for the subject even
further. We in the process of developing our extra-curricular provision and already offer weekly Science
and bee-keeping clubs as well as numerous trips throughout the year. A trip to CERN in Switzerland is
currently being planned and several of our students recently won a placement to the Inside Science
Workshop at the John Innes institute in Norwich. As an Academy we are also looking to strengthen our
STEM provision and as this grows, roles and responsibilities will be created to allow you to make even more
progress in your career.
The person we are looking for:
You are an ambitious, forward-thinking individual at any stage in your career who wants to make a
difference in a challenging context. You are a strong team player and want to develop your own practice to
improve our students’ life chances. You are willing to take risks and learn new things every day and are
prepared to challenge the status quo. Our standards are rising rapidly and you are ready to help us to raise
them even further.

There is an absolute commitment to rapid improvement from all leaders and governors. Work to tackle the college’s weaknesses is increasingly successful. As a result, pupils’ experiences of college are positive and outcomes are on an upward path. Pupils’ personal development and welfare are strong.
