Southwark Inclusive Learning Service (SILS)

SILS is a pupil referral unit for secondary aged learners that are out of mainstream education due to exclusion or other complex reasons. SILS is a ‘Good School’, and our ‘staff work collaboratively to give every student the chance to succeed’ (Ofsted 2018).

The role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Science for key stage 3.   The right candidate will have the skills to engage, inspire and deliver the Science curriculum to a high standard.  The candidate will be joining a STEM cluster with strong Maths and Science practitioners, who have high expectations and are passionate about the implementation of a high-quality curriculum.

We are keen to hear from early career teachers or returning teachers with qualified status. Do note that  a record of successful work in mainstream, alternative education or an SEMH setting will be an advantage.

As teacher of Science the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of a relevant and engaging curriculum. As Science is being reintroduced to key stage 3, we require a creative and  innovative teacher who is able to deliver stimulating lessons in our new purpose-built laboratory.

The successful candidate will be joining a supportive staff team, and will have access to a range of high-quality professional development. Whilst the position will be based at key stage 3, the applicant must be willing to work across our two school sites.  If you share our passion and commitment to developing confident capable young people, then we would like to hear from you.

Please note that informal visits are encouraged. To arrange please contact Pele Oladitan, Business Manager on 020 7525 1150 or email poladitan@sils.southwark.sch.uk

Information about our school and an application form can be obtained from the school's website at www.silsschools.org under Job Vacancies

Interviews: Thursday 23 March 2023

SILS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

About Southwark Inclusive Learning Service (Sils)

SILS is an alternative education school for 11-16 year old students majority of whom have been excluded from mainstream schools, because of difficulties with their behaviour or conduct.

SILS has been consistently judged to be a Good School by Ofsted (2012, 2015) and the staff are a dedicated team, working together to deliver the best outcomes for students.

SILS operates on two sites across Southwark South London.  The KS3 and Day 6 provision is located on Davey Street, a few minutes walk to Peckham.  Whilst the KS4 site is on Porlock Street, between Borough and London Bridge Station.

SILS works in partnership with Southwark Local Authority and mainstream schools to deliver full time education for its cohort of 'hard to place' students.   An ethos of respect and high expectations underpins every aspect of school life.  Our students know they are safe and secure at school; and our vision is to inspire them to develop and grow into confident resilient responsible young adults.

Our vision is achieved through flexible creative approaches to the curriculum, strong pastoral support and therapeutic interventions.  Our collaborative partnership with professionals and families helps to deliver improved outcomes for our students.

100% of students leave SILS at the end of year 11 with GCSEs and an accredited qualification; and up to a third of our KS3 students are reintegrated to mainstream schools annually.

SILS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and we expect all staff to share this commitment.   Also, all positions require enhanced DBS clearance and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

SILS is a great place to work and learn, and we welcome visits from prospective applicants by appointment.
