Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Kingsway School for a Science Teacher to join a strong team of professionally dedicated scientists in a large science department. Being a large school, there are plenty of opportunities to gain experience in and out of subject specialism and be part of a thriving school community.

Applications from both experienced teachers and NQTs are welcome. Whilst a physics specialist would be preferred, first and foremost we are seeking an excellent classroom practitioner and so applications from all science teachers will be considered.

The science department achieved 90% A*-C in biology, 93% in chemistry, 91% in physics, 56% core science and 59% in additional science last year. The Kingsway School is very proud of our students, many of whom go on to study sciences at A-Level at local colleges, who have remarked on the quality of the science these students have learnt whilst in our care.

Students want to learn at Kingsway, and separate sciences are a popular option. We have small classes at Kingsway, which leads to a more personal learning environment and better pupil engagement. We follow the AQA scheme of work at KS4 and have made our own KS3 syllabus in conjunction with the new national curriculum. Regardless of your specialism, you will be given the opportunity to teach all three sciences. There are resources available for all the topics and specialists in the department support non-specialists, to make sure they are secure in their teaching knowledge.

The Kingsway School is a good school, which is striving and succeeding in its ambition for Outstanding. To achieve that, the school is committed to supporting staff, providing clear plans for CPD and the opportunity to be supported by Outstanding teachers cross circularly. This has meant that teaching has improved and staff feel supported in developing their own practice, leading to promotions in and out of school.

A number of our staff benefit from an onsite private nursery provision provided by Busy Bees. This is based within the school grounds on the Broadway Campus.

The secondary school is a happy place that receives positive feedback from families about how well it cares and caters for the needs of children.

The Kingsway School has a sustained focus on learning and provides an inspiring curriculum for the lifelong learners of tomorrow. It also offers a varied and engaging programme of extra-curricular activities. The school has a long-established reputation for excellence in music, offering tuition for all abilities, plus choirs, orchestras and musical productions.

Ofsted report

“Where learning is very rapid as the result of outstanding teaching, lessons move along at a fast pace with high levels of challenge that really make students think deeply. Students relish the challenging work and tackle problems with real determination. They enjoy working on their own and finding things out for themselves, only relying on the teacher to steer them in the right direction when necessary.”
