We are seeking to appoint an exceptional teacher of Science for Ortu Hassenbrook Academy, a member of the Ortu Federation. You will be inspirational, passionate, student centred and dedicated to raising standards.

We will ensure you work in a supportive professional environment, with first-rate opportunities for continuous professional development and progression, across all key stages. We will work collegiately to transform the learning for all Ortu Hassenbrook students.

Opportunity is at the heart of the student experience at Ortu Hassenbrook Academy where the collective mission is for students to leave school being responsible, respectful citizens, ready for the opportunities life brings. This small school for 11-16 year olds, where every child is known, nurtured and developed to their full potential, offers a bespoke, personalised learning experience.

About the school:

We are delighted you are applying for this post at Ortu. We are a small harmonious 11-16 secondary school in Stanford-le-Hope with an exciting future. In September 2016, we joined the Ortu Federation and in our MAT we have Ortu Corringham Primary School, Ortu Gable Hall School and Ortu Sixth Form Centre. The opportunities at our school and across our Trust are varied and rewarding; from career stage based CPD to teaching from KS2 to KS5.

At Ortu Hassenbrook we are on a rapid improvement journey across the board. Our reputation is positive. Our roll is increasing. Our outcomes are better. Our curriculum is revamped. Opportunity is at the heart of what we provide, our vision is for students to leave school being responsible, respectful citizens, ready for the opportunities that life brings. We are a smaller secondary school, where every child is known, nurtured and developed to their full potential, but one that offers a full curriculum at both KS3 and 4, with a mixture of both academic and vocational qualifications.

Not only is Ortu Hassenbrook Academy a spacious school, we have excellent facilities, such as newly refurbished Construction classrooms, and we are known in the community for our sporting facilities which we let out in the evenings for local groups.

We prioritise extra-curricular activities and encourage pupils to participate. There is a rich programme of clubs, trips and activities, including a wide range of sports, Creative Arts and Debate club, the Passport to Adventure programme, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and we have our own Cadet force. We work extensively with external partners to offer programmes to support all pupils, we have mental health ambassadors and we are a Stonewall school.

The development of life skills for every student is paramount; pupils are given opportunities to develop through leadership, teamwork, effective communication, and problem solving, and are encouraged to focus on their work ethic, their flexibility and adaptability as well as their interpersonal skills. We have been working with the Thurrock Community Volunteering Service to provide volunteering opportunities for our pupils; we have an extensive careers programme and are working with local employers such as Amazon and DP World, as well as with various universities to provide pupils with a broad range of employer and higher education experiences.

Ortu Hassenbrook students continue post-16 at the Ortu Sixth Form Centre. Ortu Hassenbrook Academy is a proud partner within the Ortu Federation comprising Ortu Gable Hall School, Ortu Corringham Primary School, and Ortu Sixth Form Centre.

Here is why you should work at Ortu Hassenbrook:

We are hardworking and are fully committed to our improvement journey. Staff development is an entitlement. We offer a range of high quality CPD both in house and through the Trust. Other benefits for all staff include a cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes, anonymous buddies, transparent progressions managements. A full coaching and training programme will be provided for staff along with a complementary Health and Wellbeing benefits package.

Ortu Hassenbrook Academy is a warm, welcoming place to work. Relationships throughout the school are positive. Of course, we know that you enjoy working with young people and want to make a difference to their lives.

We could say a lot more but we think that the best way for you to get a feel for what it would be like to work at Ortu Hassenbrook Academy is to pay us a visit. Alison Harrold, PA to the Principal, would be happy to arrange for you to speak with the Principal, students and staff. Do give her a call on 01375 671566.

If you have the drive to lead and transform learning for our wonderful students, we want to hear from you.

The Local Governing Advisory Board is committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of children and young people, and requires all staff and volunteers to demonstrate this commitment in every aspect of their work.
