Teacher of Science

MPS/UPS

Part Time (0.6) - Permanent

Are you an ambitious and motivated teacher of science?  We are looking to appoint an innovative teacher, who is passionate about their subject and has a genuine interest in promoting the understanding and lifelong value of Science beyond the classroom. We want a colleague who believes in providing a rich and exciting education for our students that promotes a love of the subject and develops a desire to study beyond Post 16.

N North Bromsgrove High School is an exciting place to work and learn and was recently judged Good across every area by Ofsted (January 2023) in which 'Leaders and staff work tirelessly to realise their vision of an inclusive community school. All are reaping the rewards of their collective endeavour. Staff feel supported by leaders and know leaders value their efforts. Leaders’ mantra of the ‘North family’ is evident in many facets of school across all year groups’. As a consequence of our success and reputation within the community, our numbers have increased in year 9 and Year 13 and we are now oversubscribed.

North is an exciting, vibrant and friendly school, enjoying enviable facilities.  Our vision is to enable our students to become confident, ambitious and successful in their chosen fields, by reinforcing our CARE values: Community, Aspiration, Respect and Endeavour. Ofsted (January 2023) identified ‘Leaders, staff, pupils and students have worked together to make North Bromsgrove High School a better place to work and learn. They have been successful. The school’s ‘CARE’ values of ‘community, aspiration, respect and endeavor’ have been at the heart of their work’. We treat every child as an individual, prioritising academic excellence through reflection and focus on continual improvement across all areas of the school.

North also benefits from its location: it is just south of Birmingham and attracts many staff from that area via a short commute; it is also between the M5 and M42 hence providing ease of access for staff travel.

We are looking forward to reading letters of application from experienced teachers, particularly those experienced in teaching Science, or from newly qualified entrants to the profession; NQTs enjoy a full programme of support, or for more experienced colleagues, we are delighted to be able to offer access to National College leadership programmes through our Teaching School partnerships, including NPQML and NPQSL

We can offer you:

  • 9, modern, spacious, well-equipped labs each with an interactive whiteboard and moveable tables. We have two mobile fume hoods.
  • 1 bookable ICT suite situated within the Science department able to accommodate a full class.
  • 2 well-stocked science prep rooms, looked after by 3 of the best lab technicians you’ll ever find!
  • The team is made up of 8 staff including a Head of Science, Lead practitioner, and Progress Leader for Year 9.Staff teach the AQA Combined and Separate Science GCSE specifications and are expected to teach across all 3 disciplines where required. We also offer A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as a Level 3 BTEC extended certificate in Applied Human Biology. We are delighted to have an increasing up-take in each of our Post-16 courses, especially the Human Biology which has proven very popular this year.
  • Strong links to our feeder schools Science departments and other local High schools.
  • Extra-curricular clubs including Sci-Fi movie club, Animal Club and a Forensics club.
  • We are a very friendly department with a range of experience looking for someone to join us on the next step of our journey.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS, where appropriate.

Headteachers's Welcome.

North Bromsgrove is an exciting place in which to work and learn, and more recently, is one of the quickest schools nationally to have been removed from special measures.  Our recent Ofsted (May 2019) noted that our students ‘conduct themselves well in lessons and at unstructured times’, are ‘friendly and courteous’ and that ‘teachers are ambitious for students to achieve their best…’.

There is a shared moral imperative by all members of our school to deliver an inclusive education, within our state-of-the-art facilities, which ensures that ‘everyone succeeds’ and seeks to develop the ‘whole person’.

Our school motto ‘Studies Determine Character’ is lived out day to day by offering a tailored academic curriculum in conjunction with an enormous range of opportunities on offer beyond the classroom.  Our enrichment programme fosters endeavour and commitment which complement leadership, teamwork, trust and kindness.  The blend of academic and enrichment activities across the school ensures every student can grow and develop whatever their interests and talents.

We believe that ‘learning is transformative’ and being a successful school is about providing the best possible education – one that creates a love of learning and nurtures the talent and confidence of our students so that they are well equipped to go on to achieve their highest aspirations.

When you visit North Bromsgrove High School you will find a community of positive students supported by hardworking and committed staff. It is a happy school where our students aspire to excel in their studies and take part in our programme of extracurricular activities. There is a keen sense of commitment across our school community to continually review and reflect on what works well for our students and we are pioneering in our mission to offer an education which fully prepares our young people for the world of work and beyond.

North Bromsgrove High School is a place where you will find talented teachers who go the ‘extra mile’ and a dynamic school culture in which everyone can shine and develop as practitioners and leaders. Staff morale is high and we look forward to welcoming students and staff who can play an active and valuable part in developing our school and be part of the positive transformation taking place on our journey to providing an exceptional education.

The website can only provide you with a glimpse of our wonderful school and I would encourage you to take the time to come and visit us and see for yourself the good work taking place across our North family.
