York High is a mixed 11–16 school serving a genuinely comprehensive intake.  We have an absolute commitment to maximising the potential of all our students.  During the last three years there have been substantial improvements based on our commitment to genuine staff voice and high quality professional development.

The school prides itself on its honesty and wishes potential applicants to be aware that three years ago our school was judged as a special measures school and three years ago the Ofsted report was an accurate reflection of the school.  Today you will see a school that is unrecognisable from that judgement.  With a dynamic Leadership team, a committed staff body and with the support of our students and community, there is a real commitment to implementing change through high quality teaching and professional development.  Outcomes have improved from a whole school progress 8 score of -0.93 to + 0.04.   We therefore wish to hear from candidates who will be committed to our journey back to good and who will be excited by this challenge.

Within the department we have seven fully-equipped teaching labs and two prep rooms The team are housed across two floors of the building with Science rooms clustered together in order to ensure team members are fully supported in their roles.  The department is well resourced with a considerable range of practical equipment, textbooks, a substantial media library, a wide range of software and access to a wide variety of online teaching and learning resources.  We also have an excellent Learning Resource Centre which supports the teaching and learning of all pupils.

This is an exciting opportunity so if you believe that you are or can be an “outstanding” classroom teacher then York High is for you.

We can offer you a school where you can make a genuine difference, a school with an enthusiastic, determined and passionate leadership team, a school where 98% of the staff are proud to work in and a school that is rapidly improving.
