Job overview

South Wiltshire UTC opened on 1st September 2015.  The UTC provides a distinctive academic and technical curriculum for students aged 14-19 who want to target careers in Science, Engineering and Technology.  We are backed by the University of Southampton and leading local employers including Public Health England, The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, QinetiQ, Salisbury District NHS, Roke Manor Research, Chemring, Tetricus Science Park and the Royal Navy.

The successful applicants (at least two posts available) will have:

  • The ability to bring Biology, Chemistry or Physics to life for students by linking classroom topics to real world applications, supported by our enthusiastic employers.
  • Relevant qualifications (formal or through appropriate experience).
  • A proven track record in achieving high standards.
  • The ability to develop project-based learning to drive deep understanding.
  • A genuine commitment to make a difference to the lives of young people, inspiring them to aim high in their careers and building their self-esteem and future employability.

NQTs and non-qualified teachers will be considered for this post.

Flexibility:

We opened with Year 10 and Year 12 in 2015 and are now doubling in size.  We are recruiting across eight subject areas and it will be a distinct advantage if applicants can offer their specialist Science up to A Level and additional subjects at least to GCSE level.

Students and teachers at the UTC work business hours, which translates to a 08.30 to 17.00 day (15.00 finish on Fridays).  Total timetabled sessions are broadly similar to schools.

About South Wiltshire University Technical College

South Wiltshire University Technical College (UTC)  is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Wiltshire serving students from the age of 14-19. The secondary school, situated in Sailsbury has a capacity of 600 students. It is in partnership with organisations including the University of Southampton, Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire College, Royal Navy and Public Health England. 

South Wiltshire University Technical College opened in 2015 and specialises in Science, Engineering and Computing. A UTC is a new type of practical learning environment where pupils learn practical skills alongside the traditional curriculum to develop their employability skills for the future. Each student is allocated their own laptop or tablet to access, along with £1 million specialist Science, Engineering and Computing equipment.
