Job overview

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The St Marylebone CE Bridge School, a co-educational Special Free School, aims to create an environment in which our students can achieve their maximum potential, gain independence and social awareness so that they can enjoy and participate in the world of work and adult society along with their mainstream peers. The Bridge School was opened in September 2013 by the existing St Marylebone CE School, a mainstream secondary school rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, to provide an innovative education to students with statements for Speech, Language and Communication. Serving the local community it fulfils the need for secondary places for students with speech and language barriers. It was rated ‘Good’ in all areas during its first Ofsted inspection in June 2015.

As a church school we nurture respect for religious, moral and spiritual values. These are located within scripture in Colossians 3.12-17 and underpin much of what we believe in. We seek to nurture Compassion, Kindness, Patience, Forgiveness, Thankfulness, Wisdom, Peace and Gratitude in our school community. We acknowledge our special responsibility in preparing our students for life in modern Britain.

The School currently has 4 year groups - 7, 8, 9 and 10 and will expand by a new year group each September until we have years 7 - 11. Each year group has 12 students and lessons are taught in small groups averaging 6 pupils. We aim to develop confident, independent and inquisitive learners, who will become active members of their community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are offering an inspirational teacher the unique opportunity to join us as Teacher of SEN. The post will involve teaching across KS3 and 4 and a range of abilities. The successful candidate will also lead a tutor group and participate in wider school activities such as weekly enrichment and interventions sessions.

The position would suit a specialist SEN teacher, or a teacher with a particular interest or experience in special needs. Our curriculum model requires teaching staff to deliver across a range of subject areas, so no particular subject specialism is essential, however, we would be particularly interested to hear from candidates able to offer PE, DT, English or Humanities.

The successful candidate will join a creative, vibrant and supportive team of leaders and colleagues with excellent educational standards. The School offers excellent opportunities for CPD.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children & vulnerable adults and it is our expectation that all staff and volunteers share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
