We are seeking a qualified Teacher of Social Sciences, either NQT or experienced, to be part of the teaching team.
The department teaches a knowledge-rich curriculum intended to empower every student at the Academy to engage with ‘the great conversation of humanity’. At key stage 3, ‘Religion, Philosophy and Politics’ is taught to all students. At key stage 4, Citizenship and Sociology are taught as optional subjects. At key stage 5, the department offers Government & Politics, Sociology and Psychology. Candidates will be expected to offer at least one of Sociology and Psychology at A Level and the ability to teach additional social science subjects would be desirable. All teachers in the Social Sciences department contribute to the teaching of key stage 3 and 4 subjects as required.
The structure of this department encourages professional development of staff, as well as a strong sense of ownership of resources, ideas and initiatives. The staff are supported and guided in their work, resulting in high quality teaching and learning across the Key Stages.
The department is vital to the achievement of the Academy and, as such, is promoted as being of high importance to the students. There are a range of strategies in place which are focused on supporting students in increasing their own skills, knowledge and awareness. Students’ progress and achievements are valued greatly. The staff are encouraged to use and develop a wide range of strategies to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the area.
Teaching is differentiated and personalised to meet the individual needs of all students. Lessons are planned to enhance students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Students, particularly in the Sixth Form, are encouraged to do their own wider reading using both the magazine subscriptions available in the library but also carefully selected online content. Homework is integral to students’ success and books are marked to provide feedback to students and inform future planning.
The department is a well-resourced curriculum area that makes outstanding use of classroom technology, a range of on-line resources, and an array of media sources. At all key stages we strive to equip our students with the tools to become independent learners.
We can offer you the opportunity to advance your career within a supportive academy environment. You will be part of a Federation established in developing practitioners and nurturing excellent future leaders, with unrivalled opportunities for progression; whatever your aspirations as a teacher, middle or senior leader, our Teaching School Alliance provides a range of bespoke courses and qualifications, including our Aspiring Leaders NPQML and NPQSL programmes to help you achieve your ambitions more quickly.
