Established almost 500 years ago, the College of Richard Collyer is forward-thinking in every way – we’re a Beacon college and were rated Outstanding by Ofsted at our last inspection. Our mission is simple: to deliver the best possible education to our 2,000 students aged 16 to 19, and our achievements speak for themselves – in 2018, our A level pass rate was 99.7%.
A great college deserves a great location, and we can certainly boast that: we’re close to the centre of the historic market town of Horsham and well under an hour from London by train. We’re a supportive community rather than just a place to work, and we’re deeply committed to the professional development of our people.
Sociology is a high-performing subject area within the college and this post would suit either an experienced teacher or a well-qualified NQT, for whom support would be available. Weekly contact time for this post would be 17 hours (0.65 fte). Sociology currently follows the AQA specification (Family, Education, Theory and Methods, Crime and Deviance and Belief are taught as topics).

Knowledge and Skills: A range of teaching skills and methods to meet a diverse range of learners. Effective use of information technology to support teaching and learning. Excellent subject knowledge. Ability to teach a second subject, particularly Psychology, would be welcome but not essential.
Personal Qualities: Good teamwork and communication skills. Flexible approach and well-organised work patterns. Enthusiastic and inspirational.
Motivation and Expectations: A commitment to high standards, to motivate and support staff and encourage the growth and maturing of students. A commitment to enrichment for students, including visits and extra-curricular activities.
There are approximately 145 students in the A1 cohort and 110 at A2. The subject area is positioned within the faculty of Business, Sport and Social Sciences. There two other members of teaching staff within the subject area.
Members of the teaching staff are also personal tutors. Tutors monitor progress and offer support and guidance to some twenty-five students.
