Job overview

We are looking to appoint a teacher of Sociology to join our team of dedicated Social Sciences teachers. The ability to teach Sociology and/or Psychology up to A level is essential, but the successful candidate will only have about half a timetable of Social Sciences and the other half would be History.  The Social Sciences department is housed in the same block as the History staff and the staff in both departments are energetic, dedicated, and resourceful professionals who are very supportive of each other.

The school is keen to support staff to develop both personally and professionally, and the successful candidate will be given training opportunities to suit their needs and career aspirations.  If an ECT is appointed, they will benefit from the support of a mentor who is subject specialist teacher, as well as the supervision of a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Prince William School is located in Oundle, within easy commuting distance of Peterborough, Stamford, Kettering, Wellingborough, and Corby.  It is a vibrant and friendly school that strives to deliver the challenging and inspirational curriculum our students need to prepare them for the ever-changing world of work. Our students are well-behaved, happy, and inquisitive individuals, who are proud to be Prince William students.  We are passionate about providing them with the best possible education and they have high aspirations for themselves and look to us to guide them on their journey to adult life.

This is an exciting time for the school as examination results have seen rapid improvement and the school is expanding.  In 2022, 76% of our KS4 cohort achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, 53% achieved grade 5+ in both English and Maths, and the school’s Progress 8 score was +0.22.  In KS5, we achieved 29% A* - A, and 80% A* - C, an average grade of B-, and an ALPS T-score of 5.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who is committed to delivering high-quality lessons for students of all abilities. In return, the school offers a supportive Senior Leadership Team, a committed and caring department, good CPD and career development opportunities, and students with good attitudes to learning.

For further information please phone the school on 01832 272881 and ask to speak to Clara Barrett (Head of Social Sciences) or email Clara.Barrett@pws.emat.uk

Thank you for visiting our profile and I’m delighted to welcome you to Prince William School, part of the East Midlands Academy Trust community of schools.

The EMAT vision is “every child deserves to be the best they can be” and we wholeheartedly believe in this vision of providing the best education for each and every one of our young people.

Our curriculum is well-sequenced, aspirational for all and has excellent teaching and behaviour at its foundation. We ensure that we develop the character in our young people to make the right decisions, at the right time, for the right reason, even when no one is watching.

At both GCSE and A level, our outcomes are very strong, and Ofsted recognise that our school is a “calm and friendly place” where our students “enjoy school, feel safe and are happy” and “respect staff”.

Our commitment to a wider curriculum goes beyond the classroom and we have an excellent range of leadership and enrichment opportunities for all students at all ages that stretch their social and emotional skills.  The careers provision at Prince Williams School is exceptional; it is tailored to each individual student with a one-to-one meeting with our dedicated career adviser in Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4. The RSE curriculum allows our students to express their thoughts on a range of challenging topics and encourages them to develop their oracy and articulation skills to become confident in expressing themselves verbally.

We are fully committed to safeguarding our young people and all decisions are made with a lens of safeguarding their wellbeing. We are an inclusive school and our behaviour system is simple and straightforward for all to understand, allowing teachers to focus on the quality of teaching and deliver excellent learning opportunities.

I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of PWS and, with an open-door culture, welcome any questions or queries. As a community, we will work collaboratively to find solutions and overcome any barriers that any of our young people have to fulfilling their incredible potential.
