Teacher of Spanish and French

Commencing September 2022

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and inspirational candidates to join our thriving and dedicated MFL department. The successful applicant will be able to teach Spanish to A level and French to at least Key Stage 3.  A willingness to teach languages in our Primary School would be a distinct advantage. The successful applicant will contribute fully to the pastoral and co-curricular life of Derby High School.

Derby High School is a happy and vibrant place to work: our students are highly motivated and ambitious, supportive yet self-aware. You will be joining a department where the passion for learning languages is evident both in its results and student and staff engagement. The successful candidate will need to be fully up to date on teaching MFL using modern techniques, be able to demonstrate strategies to stretch the most able within a selective environment, but also support those who find learning languages more challenging. Good organisational skills, an innovative mindset and a willingness to implement new ideas and approaches will also be important.

This post would suit a well-qualified teacher looking for a new challenge or a dynamic NQT wishing to start their career in an excellent school.

You will be

• an inspirational teacher of languages, who believes in high aspirations for all students

• passionate about innovative learning and teaching

• a dynamic, forward-thinking individual

• committed to student success

• highly organised

• enthusiastic

In return we can offer you:

• a positive and innovative learning culture supported by students, staff, parents and governors

• a collaborative and supportive attitude amongst staff which promotes a sense of teamwork and unity

• a Senior Leadership Team who is committed to promoting the best environment and outcomes for staff and students

• an excellent CPD Programme

• membership of the Teacher’s Pension Scheme

Derby High School is an independent GSA day school and we currently educate 600 students between the ages of 3 to 18, in our purpose-built buildings in the leafy suburb of Littleover in Derby. Our Primary School (a member of IAPS) teaches both boys and girls, whilst our Senior School became co-educational in September 2019 with boys joining Years 7 and 12. In September 2022 we will be fully coeducational throughout the school.

Our academic record is particularly strong, with 96% of our 2021 A level entries being graded A*-B, and 80% of GCSE grades being awarded 7-9; this places Derby High significantly ahead of all local schools in both A level and GCSEs.

The school has rigorous child protection procedures in place and the person appointed will be asked to supply information confirming identity and qualifications and will be subject to an enhanced DBS/Section 128 checks.
