Hamstead Hall Academy are seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic Teacher of Spanish. We are looking for someone with a love of learning languages and a passion for teaching. Ideally they would also have the ability to teach French at KS3.

It is an exciting time to join our Language department at Hamstead Hall Academy as we have just been appointed as a partner school with the Trent and Tame Language Hub, one of fifteen in the country. Our language provision includes Spanish, French and Latin to GCSE level with opportunities for our students to continue to A-Level.

Hamstead Hall Academy is a successful, heavily oversubscribed 11 – 18 Academy in Birmingham with excellent, highly committed staff. We are a vibrant, dynamic, and interactive Academy for students of all abilities where achievement is at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for someone who is:

*    An excellent classroom practitioner with a passion for teaching languages.

*    An excellent communicator with interpersonal skills.

*    Knowledgeable about languages, with the ability to teach Spanish up to at least KS4 and ideally able to teach KS3 French.

*    Experienced in implementing strategies to improve attitudes to learning and outcomes .

*   A warm person with high levels of emotional intelligence.

The is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of language teaching and benefit from additional support, to be an outstanding teacher of Spanish. As a partner school, we work closely alongside several other partner schools. With support and guidance from the Trent and Tame Language Hub, we will explore what works best in Language classrooms. Through the lens of quality, collaboration and sustainability, the Academy will work alongside other partner schools to:

1. Identify areas of best practice to learn from, and share with the wider network

2. Share and learn from evidence-informed approaches to language teaching with a focus on:

  • improving attainment at GCSE,
  • increasing uptake in KS4 and / or KS5
  • developing intrinsic motivation for learning
  • exploring oracy in the Language classroom

3. Establish a sustainable and local network of language teachers and leaders focused on developing provision and outcomes for learners

Hamstead Hall is an Academy, serving the local area of Handsworth and Handsworth Wood.  The Academy caters for approximately 1100 students across the range from 11 - 18 and reflects the religious and cultural diversity of the city.

Opened in 1973 as Hamstead Hall School, it enjoys an attractive setting next to Sandwell Valley Nature Reserve and Handsworth Golf Course.  The site stands in its own extensive grounds and playing fields.

Hamstead Hall Academy has been at the forefront of inclusion and is one of six schools in the city with a Special Needs Resource Base.  The Resource Base caters for 40 students who have statements for cognition and learning difficulties.

Today the Academy is one of the most successful comprehensives in the country.  In 2009 it gained NLE (National Leader of Education) and NSS (National Support School) status.  The Academy has supported schools both locally and nationally to help them improve standards.

The parents/carers and students of the local area have trusted the Academy for the best part of 49 years.  The Academy, secure in its history of service to the local community, looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of the future.
