Job overview

Bloxham School is looking to appoint a part time MFL teacher to cover maternity leave for two terms initially, capable of teaching Spanish to GCSE (A level ideally), and French to at least GCSE. The post would suit a newly qualified teacher or someone looking to further their experience.

The MFL Department is housed in the main teaching block (known as the Great Hall) and all language classrooms are fitted with ceiling speakers and projectors. There are four full time teachers and one part time teacher, all of whom teach both French and Spanish. Pupils are entered for the Edexcel GCSE qualification in 5th Form and AQA A-level.

All students at Bloxham are required to study a language to GCSE. The students choose to study either French or Spanish as their main (compulsory) language with the option of doing two languages for gifted linguists. Latin is also an available option.

In the Sixth Form about eight pupils a year choose to study either French or Spanish for A Level.

There are many trips and exchanges organised by the department and the successful candidate should expect to play an active part in our cultural programme and be prepared to contribute to the raising of the profile of languages throughout the school via activities and other initiatives.

Essential Criteria:

• A good degree in Spanish with ideally French in support.

• PGCE qualified or equivalent.

• Experience of teaching GCSE and A Level Spanish would be advantageous.

• Excellent subject knowledge.

• A passion for innovative student learning and the ability to stretch our brightest students.

• Ability to be self-motivated, and a team player.

• Confidence in using IT to enhance learning within the classroom.

• Participation within the pastoral and broader curriculum programme.

• To be in alignment with the ethos of Bloxham School.

• A commitment to continued professional development.

All applicants invited for interview will be required to teach a lesson as part of the selection process.

Early applications are advised as the School reserves the right to appoint a suitable candidate before the closing date.

Bloxham School is an independent co-educational boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, situated in the beautiful conservation village of Bloxham, Oxfordshire. Bloxham School is only three miles from the M40 London – Birmingham motorway and yet has all the appeal of the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswold village. We are proud to boast state-of-the-art facilities for academic work, sport, technology, and the arts on a single-site campus steeped in a rich history. With around 530 students, Bloxham is small enough to ensure that each student receives individual attention, yet large enough to offer every opportunity a school twice its size could deliver.

The school has a good mix of boarders, day-boarders and day pupils and regardless of their boarding status, all students enjoy the same high standard of all-round education, excellent pastoral care and access to facilities.

The school offers a supportive, caring, and friendly environment that allows pupils to develop character and sense of self-worth. The individual matters at Bloxham School and the expectation is that every child will flourish. We believe this is a special place in which young people can grow, explore, learn, and reach their full potential.

The academic component of a Bloxham education is tailored at each stage to help every student develop a love of learning whilst reaching their full potential. Bloxham’s broader curriculum offers over 100 options, ranging from mainstream sports to minor ones, and from music, drama and art, to astronomy and cooking. We inspire new passions amongst our pupils, allowing them to both experience breadth and develop expertise.
