Job overview

Teacher of Spanish, with German

The Governors wish to appoint a well-qualified, innovative teacher to join our strong and supportive Languages Faculty.  This is a main scale, fixed term post of one year in the first instance. The school has a strong NQT programme and a long history of successful work with newly qualified teachers.

The Languages Faculty team currently consists of four full time and three part time staff. It is led by a Faculty Leader supported by two Curriculum Leader TLR posts. The staff are very experienced. Each Languages classroom has interactive whiteboard facilities and laptops are available for use within the Faculty.

The Faculty has been very successful at both Key Stages and produces some of the best value-added for the school at GCSE in French, German and Spanish, averaging above 70% pass rates over the last three years. Two forms in Year 7 take German at Key Stage 3, three take French and the remaining three take Spanish. Students are only given very little choice as to which language they start with, and thus continue with throughout the school.  At Key Stage 4 around 55% of students opt for languages and as a faculty area and school we are committed to increasing this.

A significant amount of networking and support work is in place with local secondary schools and the Faculty has supported neighbouring primary schools with the innovative and successful ‘Project Tapas’ which involves The Earls’ students teaching primary school pupils one night per week.

This is a full time, fixed term post for one year in the first instance.  Further details are attached and are also available on our website:

www.earlshighschool.org

The closing date for applications is 9am on Tuesday, 1st May.

The Earls High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

The parents of Halesowen have been sending their children to The Earls High School for well over three hundred and sixty years.

We started as a small grammar school and the proud traditions of high standards in behaviour and high expectations of academic progress have stayed with us in the school’s present form as a thriving, innovative comprehensive school.

At The Earls High School, we believe that people really do matter the most; our school is made a very special place by the students and staff who come here together to learn.

If you share our values and our commitment to developing students who have the skills and attributes to thrive in their next steps, we are the school of choice.

Headteacher

Mr Jamie Fox

In common with all schools, the main reason to join our organisation is to make a difference to the lives of young people. Having said that, choosing the right school for the next stage in your career is a critical choice.

So why choose The Earls High School?

  • We are fortunate to have fantastic students who are keen to learn and ambitious in their plans for the future.
  • Staff wellbeing is at the forefront of our thinking.
  • We have a clear vision for learning at the school and have a well-developed training plan so that all teachers are able to research, learn and develop their practice.
  • The school is popular in the local community and is oversubscribed. This, along with effective management of resources, means that the school is very stable financially.
  • We have a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and we are very proud of our school. Our staff turnover is low, and we provide many opportunities for progression and career advancement in the school and across our Multi-Academy Trust.
