The Learning Support Department 

Our LS Department is a thriving part of our school with an experienced team of specialist teachers, all with different skills. We currently have a number of pupils on the register who are withdrawn from lessons to attend support in the department. We are looking at ways of being able to increase our in class support and this would play a major part in the Teacher in charge of Special Needs role moving forward.  

The Post 

Cottesmore School is looking for a dynamic and forward thinking Teacher in charge of Special Needs who shares our vision that every child has a telant within our LS Department and the wider school. Overview

The candidate will have leadership experience and may already hold a similar position. You will be passionate about this role within a school and will be able to strategically review, advise on and develop our Special Educational Needs (SEN) department. Working from Years Reception - 8, the Teacher in charge of Special Needs role will play a vital role as the Prep School continues its significant shift in teaching and learning provision as we reflect on and consider the needs of preparing our pupils for the 21st Century. 

As a Prep school, Cottesmore is looking for candidates who are fully prepared to be involved in a boarding ethos environment - duties include weekends, as we have Saturday school and whole school events mean that our passionate teaching team are all involved with our pupils out of the classroom. 

The salary offered is in accordance with the Cottesmore Teaching scale. The post is eligible for Teachers Pensions. 

Teacher in charge of Special Needs Areas of responsibility and key tasks: 

Ensure that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities regarding all students with a Statement of Special Educational Needs.

Lead and Implement on departmental developments of SEN provision. 

Put provision in place to ensure progress of pupils within the LD Department is recorded through clear target setting and easily identifiable measures. 

Be aware of tracking and monitoring records for whole school. Identify pupils requiring specific support in order to provide interventions/booster classes/enrichment to aid and boost pupil’s performance as necessary.

Support all staff in understanding the needs of SEN pupils through up-to-date information, workshops and training. 

Work closely with Pre-prep Teaching Assistants to develop strategies for use in class. 

Analyze and interpret relevant school, local and national data. 

Present, inform and offer professional advice to parents in various forums - meetings, workshops, presentations. 

Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision.
