Values and vision

Uddingston Grammar School aims for its staff to be approachable and ready to give their time and attention to all pupils when they require it. It wishes to encourage pupils to become involved in extra-curricular activities so that they can form friendships with one another and with staff, away from the classroom situation. Finally, at the school, importance is placed on preparing pupils well for later life. In keeping with this goal, importance is placed on ensuring that all pupils are punctual and regular in their attendance. Furthermore, senior pupils participate in a one-week job placement. Pupils in the past have worked in the retail, construction, law, airport, architects, graphic studios, diving, engineering, and leisure industries. Pupils can either arrange their own placement or select one advertised in the school.

Education Scotland

“Almost all young people are motivated and show an interest in lessons. They often ask questions confidently and volunteer answers during discussions. Most teachers share the purposes of lessons well to focus learning. Young people are increasingly learning how to work independently and work effectively in groups through well-planned activities… Young people across all stages are developing self-confidence and a variety of skills through taking part in a wide range of sporting, musical and other cultural activities.”
