Peripatetic teaching post 1FTE working in West Cornwall, based in Camborne.

For a successful candidate who is supported to undertake the mandatory training, the post will be temporary for two years, until August 2019. Subject to satisfactory performance and satisfactory completion of the Teacher of the Deaf qualification, it is anticipated the post will be made permanent.

The Hearing Support Team is part of the Sensory Support Service and operates as a countywide team and has a successful record of inclusion of children and young people with hearing impairment within mainstream schools and also supports those in specialist provisions. Team members work closely with staff from the other SEN Support Services, working collaboratively to support settings, ensuring effective educational provision which provides positive outcomes for children and young people in Cornwall. Working with children and young people from birth to twenty five years, the Team has good working relationships with a wide range of agencies. A very high priority is given to in-service training and staff development and regular opportunities are given to meet other members of the team.

The job will provide challenging and stimulating work across the age range and in a range of settings. The role is varied and will include direct teaching of pupils with hearing impairment, assessment and advice.

We are looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified teacher who has good knowledge of Hearing Impairment and experience of working with children and young people in mainstream schools.

We are looking for a person who is committed to inclusion and whose work is firmly rooted in making a difference to pupil outcomes and who will be able to work across the age range of 0-25yrs.

You’ll be an enthusiastic team player interested in multi-professional holistic working particularly. The ability to manage your own time commitments and workload is essential.

Ideally, applicants will need to hold a mandatory qualification of Teacher of the Deaf. However if you are looking for a career change, we welcome applications from candidates who meet the essential requirements of this post. Distance Learning will be funded to obtain qualified Teacher of the Deaf status and we will support you to develop expertise in approaches to meeting the educational needs of pupils with a hearing impairment.
