To start September 2021, with an induction in the last week of August, we are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Theology, Philosophy and Religion to develop and inspire our pupils, and who is able to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole. In return the School is committed to helping you develop further as a teacher by supporting you with appropriate professional development.
There are seven full-time teachers of TPR, teaching at all levels throughout the school, all of whom have TPR as their primary teaching subject.
All pupils in the first three years (Years 7-9) currently have two 50-minute lessons a week. Pupils look at Animism and the Old Testament in the first year and Judaism and Christianity for the second year. In the third year we encounter Buddhism and Sikhism, as well as Philosophy of Religion and Ethics. Religious Studies IGCSE is then offered as an option for Years 10 and 11, where pupils study Christianity and Islam and follow the Edexcel curriculum. Currently an average of 90 pupils take IGCSE RS in each of the two years. Year 12 will be studying the OCR Religious Studies A-Level from September 2021, with Philosophy, Ethics and Christianity as the optional units.
The Department has its own recently decorated, attractive teaching environment at the top of the traditional Cloisters building overlooking the rooftops of Oundle. We have five full size classrooms, one Sixth Form room and a staff office. All classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment, and each teacher is issued with their own Surface Pro. We offer a number of trips for junior pupils each year to visit places of interest such as Peterborough Mosque and Walsingham as well as alternating trips to Istanbul and Granada over Easter. We have also lead Sixth Form trips to Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. The Senior Theology and Philosophy Societies arrange talks from visiting speakers and seminar sessions for those interested in studying Theology, Philosophy or Religious Studies at University.
We are fortunate in our location at the heart of a beautiful market town: School and town are part of the same community and our pupils take their place within this community, not isolated from it. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School’s Stahl theatre. The town has a range of independent shops, coffee houses, pubs and eateries. Encircled by the river Nene, the town is also blessed to be surrounded by beautiful countryside with many picturesque villages nearby.
For those moving into the area, accommodation may be available at a discounted rate. Other benefits include a salary on the generous Oundle pay scale.
Go to the School website at www.oundleschool.org.uk/vacancies for full details and an application form.
Application closing date: Friday 16th April 2021 (5pm)
Interview date: week commencing 26th April 2021
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
