Established almost 500 years ago, the College of Richard Collyer is forward thinking in every way – we are a Beacon College and were rated Outstanding by Ofsted at our last inspection. Our mission is simple: to deliver the best possible education to our 2,000 students aged 16 to 19, and our achievements speak for themselves – in 2019, our A level high grade rate was 58% and value added (DfE Performance Measures – Progress) placed us as the top state provider in West Sussex and the third best sixth form college in the country. BTEC results are also excellent, with 85% high grades in 2019 (top 25% nationally for Alps), and we look forward to launching T Levels in 2020 as one of the first providers in the country for this new technical qualification.

A great college deserves a great location: we’re close to the centre of the historic market town of Horsham and under an hour from London by train. We’re a supportive community rather than just a place to work, and we are deeply committed to the professional development of our staff.

The subject area of Travel and Tourism is a high-performing area within the college and joining us, you will be required to contribute to the teaching of this dynamic area.

Qualifications: Good degree together with a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET).

Experience: Current teaching or recent experience of teaching Travel and Tourism and related courses. Experience of quality assurance, curriculum planning and development within a FE or 6th form setting. Some experience of working within the Travel and Tourism industry preferable.

Knowledge and Skills: A sound understanding of the travel and tourism industry. A range of teaching skills and methods to meet a diverse range of learners. Effective use of information technology to support teaching and learning. The ability to ensure the effective planning and delivery of courses in the subject area.

Personal Qualities: Good teamwork and communication skills. Flexible approach and well-organised work patterns.

Motivation and Expectations: A commitment to high standards, to motivating and supporting staff and encouraging the growth and maturing of students and the ability to encourage extra-curricular activities in travel and tourism.

The subject area currently offers the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma qualifications but from 2020 will be offering the newly reformed 2019 BTEC Extended Certificate and Diploma. In addition to this, we also offer BTEC L2 Award in conjunction with our Transition programme, as well as the Level 2 NCFE Introduction to Cabin Crew which can be taken in Year 2. There are approximately 150 students across years 1 and 2. The subject area is positioned within the faculty of Business.

You will be responsible for delivering outstanding teaching and assessment and ensuring students reach their maximum potential. You must have a clear understanding of the importance of raising achievement and the ability to use a range of strategies to achieve this. You will be required to teach a wide range of Travel and Tourism topics and the ability to also contribute to BTEC Business at level 2 or 3 would be an advantage.

The area has a Curriculum Support Officer who helps co-ordinate and compile learning resources. The department has excellent facilities available, including the use of a large multi-functional room with ILT resources, space for group work and a replica aircraft cabin which is used extensively for role plays and to support the professional courses offered.

Members of the teaching staff are usually also personal tutors. Tutors monitor progress and offer support and guidance to some twenty-five students.
