About the Role

We are looking for an inspirational Teacher of Violin and Viola to join our thriving Music Service in the Isle of Man. Our Key Stage 2 to 5 students across the island are taught mostly in small groups, with one to one teaching available for our more advanced players. All teaching is during the school day.

The main responsibilities of the post include:

  • Planning, organising and delivering high quality strings tuition to pupils from beginner to advanced standard in primary and secondary schools throughout the Island.
  • Reviewing, implementing and monitoring courses of study, pupil progress and all other associated tasks together with the relevant administrative duties.
  • Liaising with primary and secondary school colleagues in support of curricular and extracurricular music in schools.
  • Keeping appropriate, up-to-date and accurate records of pupil development and progress.
  • Preparing pupils for graded examinations.


You will also be responsible for acting as a purposeful, inspiring and creative role model for pupils and deploying a range of teaching strategies in order to meet the needs of a variety of learners.

A relocation package and interview expenses based on receipts are available for this role.

A full valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential for this post.

About the Music Service

We are a small, friendly and very popular music service serving all the primary and secondary schools across the Island and our Saturday morning music making programme. You will have the opportunity to take part in this exciting element of the service, which includes a junior strings groups and a more advanced Senior String Orchestra as well as the Manx Senior Youth Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and other ensembles. Music is an important part of the Island's culture and the Manx Youth Orchestra's various ensembles have a long tradition of representing the island abroad on regular tours. Many of our students go on to study music post 18 and to pursue successful musical careers.

We value all members of our team and all colleagues participate in a comprehensive Continuous Professional Development programme to support career development and wellbeing at work. Unqualified teachers may, if appropriate, undertake a Cert Ed course while working full time with the Music Service, leading to professional qualifications. Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) are welcome to apply.
