Job overview

We are seeking to recruit additional teacher secondary to support the COVID-19 Restart and Recovery Programme within Langholm Academy.  This position is for 14 hours per week (0.4FTE) for a temporary period up to one year.

The successful applicant will undertake a variety of teaching duties as required at different stages to meet the needs of the school and to compensate for any loss of learning suffered by pupils during the COVID-19 lockdown.  You will be responsible for aspects of planning, assessment and reporting as directed by the Headteacher.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector. 

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

 Langholm Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational six year comprehensive secondary in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. As of the most recent inspection there were 292 students on the school roll. The school was founded in 1876, and its motto translates from Latin as ‘I give that you may give’. The current school building beside the River Esk was built in 1962, and is located adjacent to Eskdale Sports Centre and the The Buccleuch Centre for the Arts. The town of Langholm has a population of 2,400, and is known as the hometown of civil engineer Thomas Telford. As well as a secondary, Langholm Academy also has a primary school provision.
