Are you dedicated to improving the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs? Are you looking for a role where you’ll have more influence, as you take an innovative, holistic approach?

We are Witherslack Group, the UK’s leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with challenging and complex needs. Right now, we’re looking for a talented individual to join us in this newly created role – one that combines Teacher and SENCO. At our independent day school in Wakefield, we support pupils in a holistic way – focusing on so much more than just their academic achievements. It’s really important to us that we grow our pupils’ self-esteem and nurture their social skills too. All this is offered in a setting that’s outstanding in its field.

The role

As SENCO at Hall Cliffe School, part of the Witherslack Group, you’ll help us meet our young peoples’ educational needs and aspirations.  You’ll help transform the lives of up to 64 young people with SEN aged 8 to 18 – educating, inspiring, engaging and realising their potential.  You’ll have plans in place to see that our young people – whatever their needs, achieve and make progress, have dignity and respect and leave the school feeling proud of what they’ve accomplished and what they’re capable of. And with the backing of the broader management team, a range of supporting specialists and state-of-the-art-facilities, we know we’re all set for a bright future.

Our whole ethos is based on ‘building the team around the child’. This is a really big role and an exciting opportunity. Helping facilitate our joined-up, Group wide approach to pupil care, you’ll touch all the different stages and disciplines across the school. Raising standards wherever you can and representing the school in a variety of settings (including reviews with local authorities), you’ll track each child’s progress, monitor teaching and inspire colleagues across the school. Rest assured that you’ll have the resources you need to help you deliver an exceptional level of care, from access to the latest technology, to the support of market leading specialists. This is includes SEN teaching assistants and Clinical and Pastoral teams, comprised of a range of specialist therapists and mental health practitioners.

Your profile

A qualified teacher, you’ve worked at key stage 3 or 4. You’ll also be used to leading and working with teams and will have wide-ranging experience of working with children with SEN. Ideally, you’ll have SENCO experience too (if you aren’t qualified, we will put you through training to gain your SENCO Certificate). With this expertise, you’ll be equipped for a new and challenging role. To excel, you need to be organised, clear-sighted and able to work with pupils, colleagues, parents and carers. Approachable and committed, you’ll set high expectations. Above all, you’ll love seeing those in your care achieve their true potential.

For children and young people with complex, challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond. That’s what drives us, here at Witherslack Group. With our high staff-to-child ratio and in-house clinical teams, we have a reputation for excellence. Through our inspirational schools, homes and ethos, we’ve achieved the highest possible outcomes. In short, we’re creating life opportunities.

Reward

We know you’re going to do great things. So we’ll reward you with a competitive salary, contributory pension (matched up to 5%), comprehensive induction and ongoing training, Medicash Health Plan/Employee Assistance, Kia preferential Affinity Scheme, Merlin Entertainment discounts, Cycle to Work and tax-free childcare vouchers.
