Job overview

Help make an Everyday Breakthrough happen by joining our team.

A breakthrough can seem like the smallest thing, but it can make the world of difference to someone on the autism spectrum. By becoming a Teacher at The National Autistic Society you’ll help make Everyday Breakthroughs happen more often.

We are looking for Teachers (specialist areas - Primary/English) in Sybil Elgar School in Southall. You’ll be working with autistic children in a school environment.

Awarded Ofsted Outstanding in January 2018, Sybil Elgar School offers educational support for children and young people on the autism spectrum between the ages of 4-19. We strive to provide the most suitable support required by our students to assist them with their learning and educational needs, across our sites in both Southall and Acton. Working with children and young adults with special educational needs comes with its challenges, and our valued staff join us knowing that to have made a positive impact on a young person’s learning development is priceless.

Being a Teacher takes bravery, patience and commitment . But working with autistic children gives so much more in return.

We need you to be resilient, caring and sensitive towards the needs of autistic children.

We are seeking Teachers with:
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Teaching Experience (SEND/ASD)
• Proven knowledge of the National Curriculum and the impact on pupils with autism
• Ability to lead and drive forward the coordination of designated areas of the curriculum across the school
• Passion for working with pupils with complex behaviour needs
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to lead by example
• Be keen about curriculum innovations and teaching and learning approaches

Along with a host of benefits – from shopping discounts to flexible working and a competitive pension scheme - we’ll make sure you get excellent autism-specific training to help further your career.

You may have a personal connection, a desire to work with or real life experiences working with autistic people. If you share our values and are willing to make a difference to the lives of autistic people, we’d love to hear from you.

Interviews will be held: TBC
