Position Information 

Fernhill School is a K-12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP) with an enrolment of 106 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, physical and sensory impairments, and other additional learning needs across 18 classes. The school was purpose built and opened in 2017, and has continued to build a community of learners committed to achieving best practice in special education. This strong focus on best practice creates active participation and co-operation in learning allowing all students to be supported to achieve their full potential and their own particular level of independence, with a strong emphasis on student communication and engagement across all areas. The school is well supported by active and engaged parents and carers.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students from K-12 with physical disabilities, autism, behaviour difficulties, sensory impairments, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, which may be concurrent, as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Develop and implement inclusive class programs that meet the needs of diverse range of learners, including those with high physical support needs.

Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, support agencies, therapists and the wider school community.

Demonstrated skills in integrating each student’s specialised communication systems and their other specialised equipment into all aspects of the school day.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
