Teaching ServiceHolsworthy High School is a comprehensive school with 587 students. The school has close ties with the Australian Defence Force with 63 students belonging to Defence Force families. 31 students have identified as Aboriginal and 194 have a language background other than English.
The school is recognised for its exemplary student discipline and welfare practices. Students participate and excel in a wide range of sporting, cultural and artistic endeavours. The school's main focus is enhancing student outcomes through high expectations, effective relationships and quality teaching and learning.
Three support classes - two for students with autism (Au) and one for students with mild intellectual disabilities (IM) - will be established at Holsworthy High School to commence at the beginning of 2021, supported by a new Head Teacher. The School has a dynamic Library and Learning Centre to support student learning.
Holsworthy High School works in partnership with its Community of Schools to assist the transition across stages. The school also facilitates educational relationships to benefit staff and students through the annual Community of Schools concert and various curriculum activities.
The school has a highly experienced and knowledgeable staff that are dedicated to providing students with a quality education. Various extra-curricular activities are offered allowing students to reach their full academic, social and creative potential.
Holsworthy High School has an active Parents and Citizens Association who regularly contribute to school planning and programs.
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with mild intellectual disabilities and autism.
Strong classroom management skills with the capacity to cater for a diverse range of students in managing the complex dynamics of a support classroom.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum to promote engagement, learning and independence, including experience in designing, implementing and monitoring Individual Education Plans to meet the needs of students with a disability.
Highly developed communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, support agencies and the wider community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
