Position Information 

This position is based in secondary and will be a special education position catering for students across primary and secondary. The successful applicant will support students with challenging behavioural and support needs within the mainstream classroom and during periods of personalised learning.

Lake Cargelligo Central School is a small remote school located in central NSW with 239 students including 94 Aboriginal students. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students travel from around the district to attend the school located in the town of Lake Cargelligo. We are a proud member of the Lake Learning Links community of schools which enables local schools to connect and collaborate.

The school has contextualised the Positive Behaviour for Learning framework into our current wellbeing approach 'The Lake Way' to develop a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. Our approach is focused on our school values of Respect, Responsibility & Learning.

Strong collaborative partnerships with the community (including the P&C & AECG) are integral to ensuring the best outcomes for all students. We will continue to deeply engage in celebrations and initiatives that reflect community consultation. This includes an acknowledge of the Wiradjuri lands and respect being made to the Paakantyi & Ngiyampaa Aboriginal people who are a part of our community.  

We have identified the need to use evidence informed practices to ensure all students have access to high quality differentiated teaching and learning. Our focus on a consistent approach to pedagogy will drive the improvement measures across the school. Also, there is a commitment of the school to further strengthen wellbeing practices to ensure students attend and are engaged in their learning. There is a focus on utilising carried over funding for capital invest to ensure infrastructure meets the needs of all students. 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with challenging behavioural and communication needs, intellectual disabilities and students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Demonstrated excellence in designing, communicating and implementing Individualised Education Support Plans, Behaviour Response Plans and Risk Management Plans that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural and academic learning needs of students.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to work collaboratively and flexibly with students, staff, parents and carers, the wider community and external agencies. 

Commitment to advocate for the inclusion of students with challenging behavioural and communication needs in the wider school community, including transitions from primary to secondary school and to contribute to a positive school culture.

Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students from low socio-economic communities.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
