Position Information 

Peel High School, located in Tamworth (enrolment 830 students, including 38% Aboriginal Students) is supported by significant SBAR. The school is on the NSW Selective School System and has a Selective Stream in each year of the junior school. The school is recognised for its success with its partnerships and transition programs. Peel High School also has strong links with UNE as we partner with them as a Professional Experience Hub for Pre-Service Teachers.

Peel High School has a strong focus on professional development of all staff. Student outcomes show a commitment to improving learning outcomes for all students, resulting in significant and measurable growth within a positive learning environment. The school has a strong emphasis on innovative teaching and learning, winning the Secretary’s Award for ‘Most Outstanding School Initiative” for our Schools of the Future program in 2019. The NAPLAN results in numeracy have shown a strong value added growth from Yr.7 to 9, especially with Aboriginal students. Community partnerships are integral to the growth and success of the school.

Our school has an established Special Education Unit of seven classes and this position is for our ED class.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching student with Emotional Disturbance (EDS).

Demonstrated ability to design and teach quality and highly differentiated educational programs and develop Personalised Learning Support Plans for students with a wide range of individual learning and wellbeing needs, developing a culture of high expectations for all students.

Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with students, parents, the community, and colleagues to support learning and engagement.

The ability to communicate and successfully liaise with a range of external agencies and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams in order to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for a diverse range of students.

Demonstrated capacity to successfully embed Aboriginal perspectives that engage and increase all students’ knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal people’s contributions to a variety of KLAs through cultural practices.
