Position Information

Tanilba Bay Public School serves students from the Tanilba Bay, Mallabula and Lemon Tree Passage communities. Our 433 students learn and play surrounded by the natural beauty of the foreshore, with koalas and bearded dragon lizards often spotted in our expansive grounds. Approximately 18% (76) of Tanilba Bay students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our school partners positively with local Worimi people so that Aboriginal culture is acknowledged and celebrated at our school.  Our school is well-resourced, with 1:1 laptops in Years 4 to 6 and access to a variety of cutting-edge Literacy and Numeracy programs. In 2022, our teachers will engage with coaching/mentoring to enhance delivery of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) to further improve teaching and learning of Literacy and Numeracy at our school. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and Wellbeing Teams design systems and processes to enhance student behaviour and wellbeing.

Our goal is student success. As a professional learning community, we strive to grow high functioning teams that enable the success of students and one another. Our team places a high value on delivering personalised learning programs responsive to individual learning needs. Development of these programs is informed by increasingly strong systems of monitoring and assessment supportive of data-informed differentiation. In 2021, almost 1 in 3 students had some involvement with our Learning Support and Intervention Team, either through the provision of targeted intervention or enrichment. In 2022, our school community is looking forward to the establishment of a Support Class at our school, which will further enhance service delivery.  Our new support class will serve students in the "ED" (Emotional Disturbance) category, so teachers with experience supporting the learning and wellbeing of students with mental health concerns will be well-placed to excel in this role.

Our school is also working towards our goals of Trust and Belonging. Our staff team of more than 50 looks forward to welcoming our new Permanent Teacher into a dynamic, mutually supportive and improvement-oriented professional learning community, where we hope that they will co-operate with other members of our team to enable positive outcomes for all Tanilba Bay PS students.  Our new Teacher Special Education will work with other members of our Learning Support and Intervention Team, alongside our Learning and Support Teacher (LAST) and under the supervision of our Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction to ensure school systems and processes are inclusive of our Support Class and its students. Our Teacher Special Education will also benefit from and help sustain our strong community partnerships, including with The Smith Family, Port Stephens Family Support Network and various Out-of-Home Care Agencies.
