Position Information 

Gunnedah Public School is a small rural primary school with a current enrolment of 180 students. 61% of our students identify as Aboriginal. The school is a Connected Community School, following the Connected Community Strategy's key deliverables, and has a strong partnership with the Gunnedah community, fostering the education of the whole child. Gunnedah Public School runs unique programs such as Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), garden to restaurant, Equine Therapy, and interschool student-led sports. We promote responsible, respectful and safe learners.

The school has a wonderful mix of young and experienced staff who are well-supported by a learning and support teacher and a number of school learning support officers. The staff are very supportive of each other and are keen to build on their knowledge through tailored professional learning. Aboriginal culture is well-represented and fostered by an Aboriginal Education Officer, an Aboriginal Cultural Officer and a Senior Leader, Community Engagement.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with a range of disabilities and complex learning needs including autism, intellectual disability, physical disability and/or behaviour difficulties.
  2. Demonstrated classroom management skills and capacity to enhance student engagement and achievement through planned and evaluated Individual Education Plans that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural, academic and communication needs of all students.
  3. Ability to contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture by demonstrating flexibility and willingness to adapt to students’ individual needs and whole school wellbeing practices.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in teams and effectively engage students, staff, parents, carers and external agencies to promote a positive school culture and enhance student wellbeing.
  5. Commitment to, and understanding of, Aboriginal education with the demonstrated ability to develop and implement culturally appropriate learning experiences.
  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
